1st Trimester

Monistat 7 first trimester?

Hi guys,

I'll be 9 weeks tomorrow and three days ago developed a yeast infection.  My dr. was closed of course so I asked the pharmacist if monistat 7 was safe and was told yes.  I took two doses so far and called my dr. this morning as soon as they opened and he said to stop taking it immediately.  Of course now I'm so freaked out!  A lot of people are saying it's safe, others say no.  Just wondering if anybody had the same experience, and if everything ended up alright!

Re: Monistat 7 first trimester?

  • I haven't had to use any as of right now but my "Safe Medication list" from my Dr. states this...."If you have had a yeast infection before and are sure you have one again, you can use any over-the-counter intravaginal yeast medication. For example: Monistat, Gyne-Lotrimim, or a generic formulation.  Only insert the applicator half way into the vagina."

My Dr. seems to think it is ok.  I wouldn't get to worried yet maybe your Dr. would just like to see you before treatment.   Hope that made you feel a little better.

    EDIT: *Lotrimin

  • As a health care professional, I can tell you with certainty that Monistat 7 is fine if you have had a yeast infection before and are sure that's what it is. I'm a little confused as to what doctor would tell you otherwise...
  • I also have developed a yeast infection, and was told that the only medication to use was Monistat 7.  Normally I would get the two pills to take and it would go away, but that is not good to take while pregnant.  The creams however are supposed to be.

  • That's weird that he would freak out. My OB said she preferred Monistat 7 over any other treatment for yeast infection.

  • Thanks everybody!  I had an appt. yesterday and talked to my dr. about it.  Of course he said everything is fine, and that the reason he told me to avoid it is simply because everything is so delicate the first trimester (it's seeming like he tends to be extra cautious - told me no exercise the first semester too!).  Anyway, thanks for the reassurance!
  • Woah, definitely meant "trimester" instead of "semester."  Think that's a sign I'm a little sleepy!
