I read some good info on older threads but was curious for any current wisdom. DD is moving to one nap due to early wakings and protested pm naps. We started over xmas vacation so we didn't have to deal with daycare. We have slowly moved her am nap back 15 mins every day or so and are currently at 11:15. It's only been 4 days and her nap varies from an hour to two hours. She has thankfully been sleeping longer at night with a super early 6-6:30 bedtime so that helps.
I am hesitant to offer 2 nap days since I remember from the 3-2 transition that that just got messy so I hope with early bedtime we can just plug ahead.
The question is lunch. Right now she gets a snack before nap and eats whenever she wakes up between 12-1. Ideally I want her nap to start at 12 so we'd have lunch at 11:30 and a hefty snack after. What do others do? She is up for the day between 5:30- 6.
Re: 2-1 Transition -- lunch?
Up between 7:30 and 8.
Lunch at noon.
Nap at 1 p.m. for about 1.5-2 hours.
Bed at 8 p.m.
Up between 6-6:30 milk and breakfast (my kids dont eat big breakfast)
Snack at 10 am
lunch between 11:30-12ish (depending on how big snack was)
nap 12:30-1ish. Sleep 2-2.5 hours
if I run errands after morning snack DS will fall asleep in the car. I wake him up when I get to the store and he goes down for nap at the scheduled time
I find with toddlers you can't really wait for "tired signs" like a baby. They always try to push through until a massive tantrum from over tired. Once I set a "nap time" and was strict their biological clock kicks in and they never resist me.
Way to go with the nap transition! I know it can be a bit rocky. Our son is about the same age, and we're 3 weeks into it ourselves. Rough at first, but it's getting better. We resisted the temptation to give two naps along the way and I'm glad we pushed through it. I think being wishy washy and inconsistent with it will drag it out longer.
He's up for the day between 6-7am. So breakfast at 8ish, then a hefty snack/semi lunch at 10:30 or 11am, and nap around 11:45-12pm. He'll sleep about an hour and a half give or take, so I give him another hefty snack/semi lunch again at 2pm. So kind of two mini lunches, one before, and one after. He's a big eater though.
Then a small snack around 3:30pm like a few cheerios or a fruit & veggie squeeze pack. Then dinner around 5:30pm.
He's asleep between 6:30pm-7:30pm depending on how the nap went.
At home days: up 8/830, breakfast 20ish min later, morning snack if we go out around 1030, lunch at 12, nap 1300/330, snack after nap, dinner 530, bed at 8.
