Transitioning to big tub

I know this might not be the exact place to post this. But I always get great advice from this board. So, DS is too big for his infant bath tub. I've tried bathing him a few times in the big tub, just being extra careful, but he's so active and squirmy its really hard. He just wants to crawl all over the tub. I'm not sure If I should get a bath seat, but then he can't really play and splash in the water. I found one seat that just basically gives a front and back support but there is only one review. Besides just hopping into the tub with him, which I've done (but it's not always practical) what have you all used or done to make bath time safer?

Re: Transitioning to big tub

  • I just let the girls crawl around. I keep the water really shallow, and I'm right there if they should slip.

When they're ready to stand, I let them stand and walk around. Again the water is shallow and I'm right there.

We get in the tub with her. H does bath time 90percent of the time and the majority of that time he just gets in with her. She loves it. It really doesn't take too much work. (As long as you don't get your hair wet). We used a bath seat with her sometimes when she was younger but it was really just easier to hop in with her. Once she could sit up I would run a little water in the tub and do a "shower bath." I would shower while she played around in the water.

  • DS loved to crawl all over the tub at that age. We just used very little water (like an inch or so) and let him. He was in heaven.

This. And sometimes I get in with her, which she loves. We have anti slip stickers on the bottom of the tub too.

  • I just put mine in the tub and sit right there, in arm's reach.

  • With DD1 we used a duckie tub

Which was a lot of fun and worked well for us. With DS, I was bathing 2 at once, and so from the beginning we just had the infant seat sitting in the big bathtub and when we transitioned we just used a lot of water and the infant tub was more of just a chair. We also did a lot of kitchen sink baths at that transitioning stage - corner of sink gives some support and a towel in the sink gives traction for that slippery butt.

FWIW, when DD1 was little we also used a rubbermaid bin as a kiddie pool for her - that could work well too.

  • I think as long as you are right there watching then everything will be fine. My son screams at the top of his lungs if we put in the regular tub. we found the infant to toddler tub that has a max weight of 50lbs at buy buy baby and DS loves it.
