More sh@t old people say

Inspired by Nana, what's the funniest, oddest, or wtf moment you've had with older folk lately. Here's mine, from my aunt's FB page about my grandma:

WISDOM FROM MY 90 YEAR OLD MOTHER....I went for lunch with my Mom today (she is coming 91 and has a wee bit of memory issues). She asked me what was new. I said I'm going to Phoenix next week. She said, "with who" I said I was meeting my daughter. She said what about _______ (insert "wasbunds" name)? I said "we are divorced", she looked at me and said "isn't that your 2nd", (right then I knew a doozy was coming up) and I replied "yes" and she said......."that's starting to become a habit"! Ha ha ha, it was really hard to keep a straight face with that wisdom. Then she said "what happened", I inserted a sanitized, Coles notes version, she said, "you needed to kick his ass, I didn't put up with any crap from your father".

  • My grandparents like to mention at family parties that I used to be thin. Because, ya know, I'm a whale now I guess.

Don't you love that? It's either "Eat more", or "Should you be eating that".

  • My husband's grandma hits on me every time I see her.  It's worst during the summer, then she's always saying, "Oooh, ______, you have such nice legs."  And other mildly creepy things.  DH also comes from a family of mouth kissers, which my family decidedly is not.  It's taken some getting used to.

On the other side of that coin, she also says some racist things.  It's very off-putting from an otherwise very sweet lady.  No one calls her on it, though, because she's mostly deaf, and she's 93.  Not much hope of her changing.

  • OMG, snowy!!! Hit on by an old lady, definitely You are right about her not changing though, aging and dementia makes some people lose their filter. Mine does the same thing, and I don't take the kids to see her anymore, she has a potty mouth that would put a sailor to shame.

Yep, that was my grandma before the Alzheimer's hit full on. She also was going blind and he hearing wasn't very good. She would be so blunt and make comments that would embarrass everyone. Once she asked me if my cousin was home. I replied yes, and she asked "is the cow here too?' referring to his girlfriend (at the time) as he was coming up the stairs to introduce her. Embarrassed
