Teething question

Hi there! My LO is13 months old and is seems to be teething terribly right now. She has had fever for the last 3 days and really bad diaper rash. Her fever ranges from low grade of about 100.3 and it has spiked as high as 102.8.  She normally does not get diaper rash. She is not showing any signs of discomfort and is acting pretty much like herself otherwise. Has anyone experienced constant fever (sometimes high) or terrible diaper rash when there LO was teething? Or any other symptoms? Thanks!!!!

Re: Teething question

  • That fever seems high for teething- I think I'd try to get that checked out. LO never acts sick when he is. Over the summer he had strep and besides a fever that only lasted a day, we had no clues.

Usually, when LO is teething, he's fussy and doesn't sleep well. I've heard of drooling as a symptom but not of diaper rash (although it could be?)

  • DD got a really nasty diaper rash from her last batch of teeth.  She also ran a low grade fever.  Keep an eye on the diaper rash and use lots of cream.  We switched to Butt Paste when she had it last time and it cleared it up pretty fast, we also stopped using wipes and just used a wash a cloth with warm water.  Let LO go with out a diaper for a little if you can so the area can dry out real good.
  • Diaper rash and facial rash here with 2 of 4 molars so far (14, 15, 16, ~17 mos).  Disrupted sleep!  DD was a little hot yesterday but the thermometer didn't register fever.

  • With the diaper rash if it doesn't clear up after a day's use of cream make sure to keep the diaper loose (I couldn't go the diaper-less route) and no onesies.  As for the fever, that's a low-grade fever but it wouldn't hurt to call it in if it still continues.
