Raw Thumb

My LO is 7 months and sucks her thumb all the time.  It's all red and raw now and I don't know what to do.  I would put lotion on it but I don't want her to swallow the lotion.  Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas? TIA

Put some baby Vaseline or A and D ointment on and wrap in gauze to let it heal.

Aquaphor cures everything.

My lo's pointer finger is raw from nawing on it. We put aquaphor on it just as he's falling asleep.

I would be nervous about letting DS get anything petroleum-based in his mouth. Will your LO stand to have a sock on his hand if you do have to put Vaseline or Aquaphor on it?

We put lanolin in DD's thumb at night before we got to bed.  At that point she's been asleep for a couple of hours and doesn't wake.  Aquaphor is also safe to use in small amounts.  The pedi's nurse told me that they recommend it for babies that have chapped mouths from pacifiers.
