Sisters LO

Some of you may remember my post last week about being a SP and FTM who wants to do AP. I'm living with my folks right now and will have to at least 3 mo after LO comes. My mom watches my 3 yr old niece everyday after day care. She feels very close to me and very comfy in this home. The other day she came in my room and started digging in my LO things. My mom pointed to my belly and told her those were for the new baby Harper. It wasn't in a.. Not for you... Kind of tone. We were smiling and excited. She grabs the outfits, throws them, and says NO BABY. I'm worried about her when Harper comes. I love her so much too, though she's not mine... What do I do ladies?

Re: Sisters LO

  • She will adjust eventually. I would take time to talk to her about the baby before your LO arrives. Tell her how she can help you when the baby gets here. She can help bring the baby blankets and give the baby kisses, read the baby books etc. You can make a calendar counting down the days until the baby arrives. Make it two weeks after your due date and if the baby comes early you can tell her the baby just couldn't wait any longer to meet her big cousin. You could also get her a special cousin gift to give her from the baby after she gets here.

Just be sure never to leave her alone with the baby when your LO arrives. She's still too young to be left unsupervised.

  • I used to ask my niece to help with the baby by bringing wipes and diapers etc.  I also made sure to pay a lot of attention to her, answer her questions (she was very mystified by breastfeeding, so I took time to explain it in terms she understood)  She loves clothes, so I'd ask her to help pick out LOs outfit etc
