Two name questions: Middle name for Elliot (girl) and...

Let me start by saying I know that traditional boy names used for girls is not very popular on this board.  However, my husband and I really like Elliot for a girl (he is 100% and I am leaning that way).  We may spell it Elliette just so that it is clearly female when written (again realize this is unpopular on this board).  Anyway, the opinion that I am seeking is on the middle name.  I want something clearly feminine and i am having trouble finding a great pairing. I like Elliot Lilly but I think it is too many Ls.  Maybe Elliot Aubrey - but still don't 100% love it.  Would love any opinions on the middle name...

Also, we are team green and still trying to come up with boy names.  My mother's maiden name was Davis, which I love but I don't really care for Dave.  Do you think Davis would automatically translate into Dave?

Thanks!

Re: Two name questions: Middle name for Elliot (girl) and...

  • I don't think Elliot Lilly sounds bad. It is heavy on the L sound, but not in a bad way. I do think Elliot Lilliana sounds better, though.

Elliot Aubrey is nice too, but Aubrey was originally a male name and is still used on males. If I heard the name I would think a boy first. Maybe Elliot Audrey instead?

And I don't think Davis would automatically equate to Dave if you don't let it. My dad is a David. Just David. Only a few select people have ever called him Dave.

    Other suggestions:
    Elliot Gabriellla
    Elliot Faith
    Elliot Vivianna
    Elliot Isabella
    Elliot June
    Elliot Hope

    Good luck momma!!

  • These are great - thanks so much!  Elliot Lilliana is pretty and you are right about Aubrey - probably doesn't fit the desire for something clearly feminine :)

  • How many syllables is your last name? That could help narrow down middle names.

I personally think Davis would get shortened to Dave whether you wanted it to or not...depends on how the kid would treat the subject with his friends. I had a friend in college who had a name that lent itself to a nickname, and she preferred it. But when we visited her parents' house and referred to her by her nickname, the mother would correct us. It embarrassed the girl and made us think her mother was ridiculous.

ETA: I don't think there's anything wrong with Elliot as a girl's name. Would you be okay with people calling her Ellie?

  • I think David is short enough that peopl will not call him Dave.

We are also team green. We were team green with our first pregnancy as well. So fun!

I love Elliot for a girl. I would not change the spelling but that's just me. What about grace or Marie for a middle name? Classic and feminine.

  • I am in the minority in liking boy names for girls (and I changed the spelling on mine too...gasp!) I think Elliot/Elliette Lilly and Elliot/Elliette Lilliana are both pretty. I also like pp's suggestion of Elliot/Elliette Faith.

    Some other suggestions:
    Elliot/Elliette Brooke
    Elliot/Elliette Catherine
    Elliot/Elliette Madelyn
    Elliot/Elliette Mae
    Elliot/Elliette Noelle
    Elliot/Elliette Paige

Good luck finding the right name Smile

ETA: I don't think Davis will necessarily become Dave (automatically).

  • Thanks for all the input!  I am glad that there are some out there that think Elliot is cute for a little girl :)  If it helps, our last name is only five letters and is one syllable.  My first daughter is Avery Grace.

  • Just my opinion on changing the spelling, I think if you change the spelling to Elliette, you may get some people pronouncing it ELLIE.ETT, with more emphasis on the last syllable. Not sure if you'd mind that, but may be something to consider.
ETA that I like the name Elliot for a girl!

  • What about Audin, Its uncommon and unique! As for boys I think Jonathan Davis, It keeps the name Davis and it doesn't turn into Dave.

    Also for boy names

    Nathaniel Wade

    Landon Zaine

    Wyatt Keith

    Mason James.

  • I LOVE it! Either spelling is great. I am usually anti-crazy-spellings-of-a-same-name but this is totally cool. And I've never met another girl named Elliette or Elliot. Super stellar.

On the middle name, I think I'm with the PP who said the Elliot Lilly is a lot of L's. What about Elliot Elaine? Elliot Tracey? Elliot Beth? Elliot Harper?

I think Davis would stay Davis. Not a fan of Dave either.

  • I LOVE the spelling of Elliette , so so cute and the nicknames are just as adorable Elle, or Ellie. As for a middle name I think Elliette Jayde (sp) has a nice ring to it.  And very feminine.  good luck! Also on the boys name maybe if you gave it a unique spelling like Dayvis , or something along those lines it has less of a chance of turning into Dave. But I am a fan of unique spellings :) good luck!

  • I have an Elliette Mae. Great name ;) it was a tossup between Mae and Rose for mn. Plus Elliette and Avery sound great together. I also like Davis for a boy. And he will probably end up getting called some derivative or another by someone I personally wouldnt think about that too much though.

  • I like the spelling of "Elliette."  Like the PP, there may be people who put an emphasis on the ETTE part (which I think sounds nice, but I'm not sure that's what you want).

I think you've gotten some really nice suggestions for a mn.  Elliette Hope and Elliette Marie are both really pretty.

As far as Davis goes, I like it! You may end up with people calling him Dave, but I'm sure if you get into the habit of correcting people it won't be a problem.  My friend's DD is named Francesca, and she makes sure no one calls her Fran. ;-)
