Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Help with crib escaping child!

So, my DS started climbing out of his crib two days ago at nap time. I put him in a sleep sack and it worked for two days. Now today, he climbed out again in the sleep sack.

I've pulled the mattress out of the crib and onto the floor and I put up a baby gate at his door. He's now throwing all his toys out of his room over the gate and into the hall. He's also trying to climb the gate.

How long did it take for your LOs to get used to being out of the crib? I can't put him back in now. I'm worried about bedtime now. He'll have to sleep on the mattress on the floor until we can convert his crib to a toddler bed. He's always been a great sleeper.

  • I can't answer your question because so far the sleep sack trick is working for us. However, can you just close his door?

I would take out all toys except a few books and close the door.

He just opens the door, so that doesn't contain him. I sure wish it did.

I just realized someone else posted almost the exact same question a few posts down. One of the suggestions was to turn the crib around so the high side is out and the low side is to the wall. I did that, so we'll see if it works. Fingers crossed!

  • Child door knob thingy?

I've also heard of reversing the door knob so the lock is on the outside and then only the parents can unlock the door from the outside.  Basically the same effect as the door knob thingy.
