Babies: 6 - 9 Months

This is normal - right?

DS is 5 months and for the past week or so, has seem very disinterested in eating.  He gets breast-milk, formula and solids, and none of these seem to interest him much.  He used to LOVE food.  Now it's like he'd eat the food, but only enough to not be hungry.  To put it in perspective, he is still eating about 5 feedings of breastmilk and formula a day (probably around 4 ounces each time) + 2 meals of solids (again, 1 - 2 ounces a time).  On the other hand, he is visibly less chubby and also doesn't produce as much "output".  I talked to my doctor and all I got was "he'll eat when he is hungry".  Being a FTM, of course now I'm paranoid and meal time has become rather stressful because I'm constantly monitoring how much he eats.

Thoughts?

  • DD went through a few weeks like that around five months. She was just between growth spurts. She started eating a ton a few weeks after that. I wouldn't worry if your doctor isn't.

  • DS did this too around 5 months when he became more alert with what's around him and wanted to look around rather than eat.

  • It's totally normal .. he could be teething, not hungry or just not into food.

My DD .. did the same thing and as long as they are gaining weight everything is good.

  • My LO does this when he is teething, maybe some teeth are on the way!
