So had my 38 week appointment today. 3.5cm dialated and 80% effaced. So I know spotting is normal following an internal, but what's it look like. I have had some brownish red, and now it's brown, but there are strings of brownish mucus in there too... could that be pieces of my mucus plug?

If it looks like mucus it could very well be your mucus plug.  I lost mine a couple of weeks ago and it was like you described.

thanks for the reply. that eases my mind a little... wasn't really sure what it could be... if it lasts though I might give the doctor a call
