I am getting out of a girls Christmas get together tonight after an hour cause my DH is going to text me saying he is sick and I am going to come home and eat the rest of our Christmas cookies.
I don't think we're getting DD anything for Christmas. She's gotten a ton of stuff from grandparents & other relatives, so we're probably going to skip any 'Santa' gifts. Parents of the year!
My mom decided to spend her holiday with her other two grandchildren, because they would throw a fit otherwise. I haven't lived within driving distance to my mom for several years until now. She sees her other grandchildren probably 45 times a week. She's only ever met my daughter once, and it was me who flew 3000 miles so she could meet her.
My niece and nephew will be with their fathers for half of the holiday anyhow.
My daughter has literally no family on my husband's side. It would have been nice if she could have been here with us.
Anyhow, there's this lady who is around my Mother's age and has no grandchildren yet. She's been very nice and helpful to us. She's watched our daughter for us a few times and showed me around the city we moved to. We also spent our thanksgiving with her family. I told my mother about how nice this lady has been. She immediately got "sad" because she thinks my daughter will think of her more as grandma, which is crazy for so many reasons. Part of me wanted to tell her "YUP" to be spiteful.
Of course, I say nothing. Ever.

I think the whole commercialism of Santa is so overrated and sad. We are trying to teach my almost 4 year old about strangers, people coming into our house uninvited, etc. How the heck do you explain Santa breaking into your house and giving you kids when you are trying to teach them not to take stuff from strangers. Eh. NO Santa in my house. Or creepy elves that do bad things each night without being disciplined.

I'm sorry Sam. I hope your mom's hurtful behavior doesn't ruin your holiday.
I'm the same way with my mom about not saying what I really feel. Maybe in the new year we should both start!
