Sleeping through the night

Sleeping through the night

Are your LO's sleeping through the night?  If not, do you plan to sleep train or are you more relaxed and will let them figure it out on their own - meaning STTN when they are ready.

My twins have gone for longer stretches (5 or 6 hrs) but are not STTN yet.  We are still giving them 4 oz of formula during the day and at night.  They are fed every 3-4 hrs during the day but we typically do not wake them to feed them.

I thought by now they would go for even longer strecthes or STTN.  We plan to let them figure it out on their own but this mama could use some extra hours of sleep.  Also thinking with them being a little premature (born at 36w6d) it may take them longer.  Plan to follow up on this with our pedi at their 4 mo appt next month.

Re: Sleeping through the night

  • We've called it STTN. At 4 weeks she started sleeping 6-7 hours. Last night she slept 9 hours. She did this all on her own. We don't do anything but a bath at night to encourage it.

I usually get one 5.5 hour stretch followed by 2.5 and then 3. If she isn't STTN by about 4 months, I'll reevaluate, but I probably wouldn't sleep train until 6 months. I kind of think if she's still waking up now, it's because she really is hungry, and I don't want her to be hungry.

This... My LO usually gets up once or twice a night to easy, so I'll go until she doesn't need to eat so often. Probably start working on training around 4 months.

  • My son was born at 36 wks 0 days and not quite sttn yet. He is going to bed btwn 7:30 and 8:30 and up btwn 2 and 4am. I haven't really done anything about it yet but if he is still doing it in a month I will reevaluate. I have sort if tried to make his bedtime later but he is so ready to go down when he does and I don't want to torture him yet.

  • L was born 37 weeks so I feel like he's behind on this STTN thing. It'll happen, he's going about 6 hours then 3 then 4 so we still get lots of sleep. He generally goes down at 8.

  • Z isn't even close to STTN. I'm in the "she'll do it when she's ready" camp. Heck E started sleeping 8hrs every night at exactly 1mos old but then had a crazy sleep regression at 5mos that lasted a LONG time. If I can get at least two 3hr stretches between when the bany finally goes down and my toddler wakes up I feel okay.

  • My LO goes down about 8-9 and sleeps until 12-2 and then is up again around 5.  Sometimes we're up two times a night and others it's just once.  Mostly we get a 6 hour stretch followed by another 2-3 hours.  I'm basically letting DS set the pace on the sleeping as his "schedule" seems to changes every few weeks.  Last week he was waking up every two hours and not napping.  This week, he's back to sleeping 9 hours with a MOTN feeding and napping morning and afternoon.  If we reach the 4-5 month mark and he's still erratic, we might try to get him on a schedule, but for now, he's calling the shots.

I thought 6 hours was considered STTN?

It is! I say Z isn't close because she's still up every 2 to 3 hrs with maybe a 4hr stretch every few days.

  • Ha!  What's STTN?  I'm lucking if S lets us get 2 - 4 hour stretches.  Last night we were up with him every 2 hours.  I'm pretty sure the first time he sleeps through the night I will cry tears of joy.  But I really don't see it happening anytime soon.

  • I get three hours at a time. My kid usually wont even go down until well after 11-12. I would kill for 5 hours at a time right now.
  • We've been getting 6 & 7 hour stretches starting last week (LO is 8 weeks, 5 days). I personally did a happy dance in my kitchen and called it STTN the first night we got 6 hours. We do bath and rocking until he is drowsy, but besides that I'm not really planning on changing anything.

  • L goes to sleep between 8 and 9 and usually sleeps 4-5.5 hrs then 3 hrs the 2hrs, its pretty nice. I cant complain, but a 9 or 10 stretch would be amazing!
