Thrush question

We have thrush which may explain why it has been so painful to breastfed. I was wondering how you clean the pump parts? Is hot soapy water enough.

Re: Thrush question

  • Ditto pp. Our dr told us to boil everything and to continue for 10 days after it clears up.

  • I've been told once on medicine, boil everything for the first 24hrs after you use it, all bottles, pump parts, paci's, etc. Otherwise you'll run the risk of re-infection. Same with clothes, hot water to warm and warm-hot to dry.
  • So sorry you are dealing with thrush! LO and I both had it for a month! It is noo fun.  I washed pump parts in hot soapy water with about 1/4 cup of vinegar, then used the medela microwave sterilizing bags after washing in hot water...and I did it after every time I pumped. It was such a pain but after having it go away and come back, I wasn't taking chances.  The dr prescribed nystatin did nothing for us. We finally did 7 days of gentian violet every night before bed and I used miconazole cream during the day to rid ourselves for good! After you are finished treatment, throw away all pacifiers and get new ones.
