Car seat Straps - When to move them?

Hi!

When do you move the straps on the infant car seat up to the next notch?  We did already, but I'm really curious as to when/how you know to do it.

Thanks :)

Re: Car seat Straps - When to move them?

  • It is in the seats user manual.

  • RFing, the straps should be below the shoulder. If they are above the shoulder (like they are when YOU drive), that's too high.

yep so I just watch when I put dd in the car & when her shoulders are above the next slot I move them.

  • The straps should be either right at the shoulder or beneath the shoulder. As long as the strap doesn't come from above the shoulders, then you are fine. Same goes for the convertible seat when you move to one.

  • Yep, like PPs said, when the next strap up is at or below her shoulder, then I move it up.

On that note, we have moved up the straps in our own car seat once (Chicco Keyfit).

But, we just got back from visiting family and renting a car with a car seat and were unable to move the straps in that to fit properly. It was the cheapest car set I have ever seen (no name branding on it anywhere--so no idea what make it is) and VERY difficult to adjust anything, even getting her in and out.

So I now understand that all car seats are different and some might be near impossible to adjust the straps.

I am having trouble updating tickers--But I am due on April 2015. I have 2 older step children: 9 and 14 yrs and I also recently had 2 younger children: 2 years and 1 year... so this means I will be having 3 under 3--and trying to fit our family of 7 into our minivan--eek!

  • Our careseat guide says to move the straps to make sure they are even with the top of the babys shoulders.

  • Strap has to be below the shoulder so once I know that if the strap is moved it'll still be below her shoulder I move it. I've moved it once.

When they are too tight on your child.

    ??

I am not sure what you mean by this. The harness adjusts to loosen and tighten the harness, that has nothing to do with moving the straps up. The harness should always be tight enough that you can't pinch the straps.
