Biofreeze

Anyone know if this is ok to use or if it seems to vary by Dr? My hour and a half commute each way it's really taking a toll and I can barely walk by the time I get to work our home... The chiropractor only helps so much. :

Re: Biofreeze

  • I don't know specifically about Biofreeze, but I called my doctor because I'm pretty sure I pulled a muscle in my back and he said it was okay to use Bengay or Icy Hot. I don't know if you have those, but the Bengay has been helping me.

  • Many forms of bengay and icy hot contain methyl salicylate. That's an NSAID and those are category D in third trimester. Biofreeze ingredients look ok...aside from methylparaben.

  • Make sure you don't apply a heating pad or ice pack after you've applied the bio-freeze.  You can get a nasty burn.
  • Thanks ladies! Good to know about the heat pad and the ice!

  • I want to amend my earlier statement by saying that I was using bengay on my upper back. I called the nurse line today to find out if it was okay to continue using it (have been using it since Saturday), and one of the midwives told me that what the doctor on call on Saturday was wrong; I shouldn't be using bengay for my back because it heats up that part of your body. I explained that I've been using it around my shoulder blade. She said, "Well, that's not your back (?), so using it on your shoulder blade should be okay." Because I am getting conflicting information, I have decided not to use it at all and wait to try anything else for pain relief until my next doctor's appointment. I'm mad because I thought what I was told was safe, and now I'm worried about using it for that time even though the midwife said not to. Sad

Sorry, OP, for putting out incorrect information. I thought I could trust what the doctor on Saturday said. Embarrassed I hope you're getting some relief for your back.
