Sore Nipples?

I've been pumping for about a month now and recently my nipples feel so raw. I've been putting nipple cream on them but is there one that you suggest? It's to the point now when I pump or DS latches I make a face due to the pain/discomfort. I don't plan on stopping but anything that would ease the discomfort would be great

Re: Sore Nipples?

  • Make sure your flanges are the correct size, they can rub if they are too small.  I had some pain with latching and initial let down until about 5 or 6 weeks myself.  I really felt like it was more comfortable when DS was a little bigger and his latch was wider.  He never had a bad latch, it was just easier as his mouth got bigger.

I also had some more soreness around 8 weeks, because I feeding and pumping pretty often to build up a freezer stash.  That got much better when I went back to work.

For cream, I always just used lanolin.

  • I used Lansinoh lanolin and some reusable pads that could be microwaved or frozen. I think they were Lansinoh, but I'm not sure.  Some people recommend the gel pads, but they're only good for one use.  GL!  Hope it gets better soon!

  • Definitely check the size of your flanges! I also used the gel pads the lanisoh are good for multiple uses. Stick them in the fridge for extra relief when you first put them on.

  • Thank you Ladies, I'm pumping every 3 hours. I am creating a good freezer stash and more milk is coming in. Which I'm happy for since I know he's probably about to increase how much he eats and I have a fear of running out if milk. I will look for the gel pads. I think they are the right size but if anything they might be too small. I'm headed to BRU today to get a swing so ill look for a bigger size as well.

    Thank You

This exactly. I love the lanolin and it has helped so much.
