I'm a FTM and we recently moved to a house that unknowingly to us is two blocks from the train tracks. You can hear it pretty loud and clear in the bedroom and it wakes me up at least once a night. I'm worried about how a newborn is going to handle that. Anybody with experience?
Re: Train horns
I recommend the Marpac 980A for both you and the baby though. I swear we've all slept better since we bought ours. Blocks out trains, barking dogs, noisy AC units, the sound of the washer and dryer running, and helps mask snoring and tossing and turning.
The baby won't know any differently (whereas, you do since you just moved there). DH is from another state, and when we go home to visit his parents, the sound of the train keeps me up at night. He says it's soothing to him though, and he actually likes it. Since he grew up with it, it doesn't bother him...
We got him a sound machine when DS2 was born. One of the sounds is actually a train. Everynight he points to the machine and says "choo choo" he gets upset if I put it on a different track so he falls asleep to the train everynight.
