So the dr said that once he started solids he would quit spitting up as much (he is a "happy spitter" as they call it. He spits up but not really concerned with it. Well it did get better but lately it has gotten worse. He spits up after every meal. We have been through 3 outfits today!
He is making all his milestones and is a big baby in both height and weight. I have been told that if they aren't losing wieght then they won't do anything about it.
It isn't very much but can be one to two times between food and nap. And it is the bad acid smell
Re: spitting up
I trust the doctors. I love his doctors and they love him ( i really believe this - even the nurses love thier jobs and all the babies that come there)
I think i am just looking for a place to look for other people that have been there and tell me that it will get better or if there was something more i could do that i wasn't doing. He doesn't act bothered at all. He spits up and keeps going. We have burp cloths all over in the living room to grab quickly
we are a 'happy spitter' as well... except ours came down to not gaining any weight from 4 to 6 months ...
we were put onto an added rice formula, which makes it thicker, and it has helped slightly... we have gained 1 pound in 6 weeks... so it has helped, but not as much as we'd like it to.
I know where you are coming from though. We throw up after every burp, and then again about every half hour, even 4 hours after we have eaten.
It is extremely agitating seeing them like this, and you just want to ring the nurses neck for not helping, but really, some babies are just like that...
I really hope your LO gets better soon... but I have heard it can last up to a year or so...
I have a happy spitter too. My pedi said it usually gets worse before it gets better, but that 95% of kids outgrow it by the time they are a year old (I know that seems like forever!). Our LO spits up MUCH less now that she's on solids twice a day. We also thicken 2 out of 4 bottles with a little rice cereal. Now she only spits up a few times a day and it's a much smaller volume each time. I can appreciate the frustration, when her spitting up was at its worst I was ready to pull my hair out!
