Secondary IF

Injecting- has this ever happened to you?

HI All- I'm an on and off again lurker. I'm in my first cycle of IVF. I'm up to three injectables daily right now, with my trigger planned for this evening and my ER scheduled for Thursday... Anyway- the other night I THINK I hit a vein with my Gonal F shot! Some blood came out- not a lot and then the next day, yesterday, there was a huge black spot there- looks very much like a very dark bruise- its a little tender, but otherwise ok... I'm assuming this is relatively common? I'm a little freaked out by this! I'm also super afraid of the intramuscular shots... my husband is unable to give them to me, so I am having a friend who is a PA give them- any words of advice?? AAAND... it looks like our ET will be on Christmas even morning!!! I'm hosting 40 people that night...

Re: Injecting- has this ever happened to you?

  • Also- I just realized that my siggy changed back to what it was literally 3 years ago... I DID have my secondary IF stats in there: TTC since January 2012. BFP 3/2012. M/C April 2012. BFP June 2012. M/C June 2012. Spent Summer 2012 testing with RE. Outcome: DH Abnormal count and slow swimmers. First IVF cycle planned for Oct. 2012- insurance screwed up. Start first IVF cycle 11/30/2012. Retrieval planned for 12/20/2012.

  • I am a nurse and I give tons of IM shots! It could have been in a vein although it is pretty rare, it could happen. Make sure you pull back on the plunger a little bit before you inject the medicine to make sure that no blood comes into the syringe. If it does, then you are in a vein.

What is more likely is that  you injected at a slightly odd angle. That can cause bleeding and bruising at the injection site. Good luck with everything!
