Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Where does your LO sleep?

I am considering moving DD from her crib to either a toddler bed or a mattress on the floor.  I've come to the conclusion that she sleeps better anywhere than in her crib.  Have you moved your LO out of his/her crib yet?  Any recommendations?  Please keep in mind that DD is 20 months.  She does not walk yet (gross motor delay).  Thanks!

Re: Where does your LO sleep?

  • My son started HATING the crib at about 15 months, so we moved him to an Ikea Toddler bed.  That worked for us for about a month, but he kept hitting his head on the wooden rail that's attached to the bed.  About a month ago, we moved him to a queen size mattress and box spring right on the floor and he LOVES it.  He goes to bed by himself and stays asleep all night.  We attached those foam floor squares (the ones that look like puzzle pieces) along the walls surrounding the bed (it's in the corner) and it protects his head from hitting the wall while he's sleeping.  Looks good, too.  Good luck!

  • I am thinking of moving DD to a full bed soon (21 months). I'm just waiting for a couple things to line up. She went to sleep in our bed a couple weeks ago and she fell right asleep, so I think she prefers a bed. My brother moved both his kids into full beds at around 18 months. I think he put them straight into a bed, not a mattress on the floor, but if your DD doesn't walk I'd start with a mattress on the floor.

  • DD still sleeps in the crib but as soon as she starts climbing out, she will get moved to a full size bed.

  • DD has been on a floor bed (our old queen mattress) since a year.  It was in our room for nearly a year and a half, and is now in her room.  (I do still often sleep on it with her.)

  • At LO's school he's in a floor bed.  It promotes independence.  They were auctioning some off last week, I put a bid in (thought we'd use it during naps)...I'm guessing someone must have outbid me, because I haven't heard anything.

  • Chloe doesn't sleep well in a pack and play, she is almost too big.  So this weekend while visiting my FIL we put her on a twin mattress on the floor.  She did awesome, I was worried about naps, but she went right to sleep and actually napped longer than usual.

not sure when we are going to switch her over at home, we will just make her crib a toddler bed.  Probably in a month or so, it'll be nice to have her get up and come downstairs after her naps by herself.

  • DD sleeps in our bed. I sold her crib recently as she never used it. I did put her mattress on the floor in her room and she has shown more interest in it recently so we will probably transition her to her own room sometime after she turns 2.
  • DD sleeps in her crib for naps and bedtime. If she starts trying to escape, we will move her to a toddler bed right away. Ugh, the thought of making that transition anytime soon makes me very anxious.

  • DD is approaching 20 months and we so lucky that she loves her crib.  She's been in there since Day 1 and it's her place.  She's comfortable and happy there. I plan to keep her in there for as long as possible.

  • DD is on a twin matres on the floor. It's working great for us. She's sleeping mostly through the night and if she doesn't she's easy to get back to sleep . It's also much easier for me as I'm rather pregnant and she puts herself to bed, DH's back loves it too as he's tall and putting her in her crib was hurting his back.

  • He's 15 mos and all he's ever know is his crib for naps and bed time.  He sleeps in the car for naps from time to time, but those are always shorter.  I'll keep him in the crib til he's 5 if he'll let me.........Smile
  • In her crib. She is SERIOUSLY in love with her crib. Like wants to be in it all the time---her new thing is she learned how to jump in it!

But seriously--I have absolutely no desire to move her since she is so happy and content in there.
