When to move to crib?

Ok so my DS will be 7 weeks tomorrow and he is starting to outgrow the bassinet in our room. I am so not ready for him to leave our room but not sure how much longer he'll be comfortable in here. Just curious to see how old your LO's were when they moved to the crib.

I also think I'm a bit hesitant bc he is my last and I want to cherish every moment!

Re: When to move to crib?

  • DD2 is 9 weeks and still in our bedroom.  She'll stay in our room until about 4 1/2 to 5 months.  She's currently sleeping in the RNP.  If she outgrows that sooner, we'll set up the PNP in our room for her.

DS1 slept in our room until the same (5 months).  We then moved him to his room for naps and bedtime with sleep training.  It worked great!  He's been an awesome sleeper ever since.

  • LO was in our room in a cradle till she was about 6.5 weeks.  She outgrew it and we had to move her into the crib in the nursery.  I cried that night, but she seems to be doing okay.  I have some trouble getting her down, but once she is fully down she will usually sleep 3-4 hours.

  • I wanted MJ to sleep in his crib from day one, but hubby wanted him to be in the room with us for a bit. He brought that up yesterday now that MJ is two months. He currently sleeps in his pnp in our room. Im used to having him in there with us so now I'm not sure I'm ready for that. One minute I am, one minute I'm not. I haven't even put him in his crib for a nap yet. I know he needs to be in his own room, maybe we will start working towards it in the next few weeks. Especially since I'm going back to work soon.

  • We moved Charlie at 5 weeks. He had outgrown the bassinet in our room and we wanted him to be comfortable. I cried the whole first night but he barely noticed and slept better. I think we now sleep better too because we are not waking at every little grunt.

  • We moved DD at 6 weeks. We probably would have kept her in our room longer if she would have slept in the pnp, but the only way we could get her to sleep was in the boppy in between us in the bed. I knew the longer she stayed the harder it would be for both of us, so we did it over Thanksgiving weekend when DH had several days off and could help me.

It was hard for me too. She is our last as well and a part of me just wanted to have her close by as long as I could. But we are all sleeping better with her in her crib.

  • We moved LO at 4 weeks...he was very noisy! He's done fine in his crib, and sleeps a 7 hour stretch.

  • We moved S around 2 months.  I loved having him co-sleep with us when he was small, but as he grew he got noisy.  It was very hard to sleep with him in the bed. I have to say that he transitioned into his crib really easily.  He is far from STTN, but everyone is sleeping much better because of the move.

Same situation for us. We have a fan on in our room for white noise (DH and I both need some noise to sleep normally, and Rebekah seems to sleep a lot better with it too), so we don't hear any of her little grunts. I will be quite sad when we do move her to the nursery.
