Metallic breath

I noticed today my son has a metallic-ish smell to his breath. It isn't sweet or fruity, like with diabetes. He has never had this before. The past few days he has had a diarrhea, but he's been taking bottles like normal so he is staying hydrated. Today he was also a bit more clingy and fussy than normal. Does anyone have any idea what the metallic breath could be from? My googling suggests I should maybe be expecting a fever and illness soon. I don't think he is teething, he already has 8 teeth and I've never smelled it before. I'm so paranoid about him getting sick, he had Adenovirus in early November and was in the PICU, so any little thing out of the ordinary really gets my anxiety going...

Re: Metallic breath

  • I think I remember from nursing school that a metallic taste in the mouth could be a sinus infection.  I wouldn't be surprised if that also means the breath has a metallic smell.
