Contrax every 2-3 mins at 29 wks = not labor!

Which is definitely a good thing, but it's kind of stressing me out.  I've been to L&D 4 times so far this pregnancy.  I'm not dilating at all, thank goodness.  The doctors say it's definitely not typical, but right now it's just pre-term contractions and not pre-term labor.  Anything like this happen to anyone else?  I'm on modified bedrest and taking it easy, but it doesn't really seem to matter.

  • If you're contracting that frequently it IS labor, it might just not be causing cervical changes. Are you on procardia?

No.  They just mentioned that if I was dilating that they would give me steriod shots for the babies' lungs and a magnesium iv to stop the contractions, but since I'm not having any cervical changes they don't feel like they should do either.

  • I far from know it all, but I will say this. I had contrax for a week and a half and was put on bedrest. I as well had no cervical changes for a week and a half. Then my contractions started getting really close together and I went in. They could not stop the labor with magnesium and they did give me steroid shots, but not until 24 hours before I delivered. They should put you on something now to slow the contractions because you can start to dilate really fast. Not trying to scare you but I'd ask about getting on something, and getting the steroid shots sooner rather than later. Also I'd time your contractions at least twice a day to make sure they don't speed up. Everyone's body is different, but I'd for sure get the steroid shots. Good luck!

This. There are two steroid shots. They are given 24 hrs apart and need to be given at least 48 hours before delivery to be effective. Id ask for them just to be safe! You never know with multiple pregnancies and things can change so fast...

  • I had contractions every 2 to 9 minutes from 32w to 36w1d when I went into labor. But, I think I had been having them longer and just didn't know what they were until the NST picked them up. My MFM freaked and wanted my OB to be checking me all the time. Even two hours before my water broke, I wasn't dilated. They were all shocked at the regularity and frequency of my contractions, but it all worked out.

  • Thanks everyone.  I'm going to ask my dr. about the steriod shots.  The nurse in L&D today thought I should ask about them too.  I'm just praying that the babies stay in a lot longer!

  • I had that too, from about 25 weeks until 32 weeks when I delivered! The OB said I had an "irritable uterus" and yes it was very irritating! Hang in there :)
