Anyone else do this?

Typically we are out of town on Christmas either with my parents or with the ILs.  I think as our tradition that we will celebrate Christmas on the 27 each year (unless we get fed up with traveling and remain at home).  Or we might celebrate it early each year.  Anyone else have this issue?  Suggestions?

  • I grew up like this. We were always at extended family on the holidays (either far or near). We had Christmas at home whenever it worked. 30 years later it's still the joke, "So when is Christmas exactly?" We all lived and thought it was fun.

It was also great as a kid and a lot less stress to spread it out a bit and actually enjoy it rather than jamming four events into two days on actual Christmas.

My mom made it special by doing a treat with us during the 4 Saturdays of advent, getting us something fun to do on the roadtrip to grandmas and something fun to wear at grandmas.

We kind of do the same now. It is what it is. I'm not a "MUST be home on Christmas morning person" at all. Doesn't cross my radar of things to passionate about so that probably sways my opinion. :)

  • We are doing our "family" Christmas on Christmas Eve afternoon. This will just be for DH, DS and I. We are then traveling to spend the next few days up north with DH's family. Every family has their own traditions and as long as you're happy that's all that matters.

  • We just had our Christmas this past weekend.  It worked this year since we'll be leaving to be out of town this coming weekend through Christmas.  I'm not sure what we'll do in the future!  But it's better than hauling gifts all over creation!

  • We are out of town every other year, as we alternate with my parents every year. The day we get back we will celebrate a little more because Santa is leaving a few presents under the tree here while we're gone. ;) But that's as far as we will celebrate after we get back from celebrating out of town.
  • We're there with you.  I'm guessing Santa will come, but we'll have to wait to see what he brought each year. :/ Last year we went home for a week...that was a nightmare and I will never stay that long again.  We're not taking any gifts from us to LO because of the drama that might ensue if he opened one at one Grandma's house, but not the other's...ugh our moms make me crazy.
