Hacking Cough

I have had the worst cough the last couple of days.  No fever yet and no other symptoms, just a little bit of phlem and coughing fits that feel like I am hacking up a lung.  I feel so bad for the little guy for having to be in there while I'm coughing like this!

I already got the greenlight from my OB to take Robitussin DM and I am drinking water like crazy to see if I can flush whatever this is out of my system, but if anyone else has any other suggestions I would be so grateful (especially since the Robitussin is only working so much).  Thank you!

Re: Hacking Cough

  • So sorry for you. I hope the meds help. I've been coughing for over a month. Coughed so hard, I strained a muscle in my back. Back is better, but cough is still there.

  • Dealing with the same dreaded cough. Mine isn't in my lungs, so even Robitussin does nothing. I heard tea with honey or lemon works well. You can take certain cough drops or such on hard candy. A vaporizer for dry air might help...sleeping inclined. These have been suggestions I have gotten. I had my lungs checked twice and all is clear, but I can feel the drip in my throat. I use saline spray to keep my nose clear and keep infections at bay.

  • I'm in the same boat. The first day I was coughing so hard I couldn't even keep any food down, and by the second day I'd lost my voice. Now it's day three and my voice is still gone. The cough has mostly gone away, but now I'm battling a stuffy nose too. I keep telling myself that with all the colds I keep getting, LO will have a strong immune system!

  • i've had a nasty cough for the past week, it's finally getting better. It was really bad at night and in the mornings, mornings were when i'd cough up the most phlegm. It was yellow, but now it's turned clear, so that's a good sign. I just drank a lot of water, and we bought a humidifier to keep in our room at night so I could breather..the air was so dry before. And i would drink hot tea (honey vanilla chammomile is my fav) or i would squeeze fresh lemon juice into warm water and drink that. My chiropractor also said to mince some ginger and boil it, then strain it out, and add some cinnamon and honey and drink that. I haven't done it yet, but I would have tried it if I wasn't getting better.
