Toddlers: 24 Months+

waking up at the same time every night

I put my son to bed around 8:30 every night. For the past 4 or 5 nights he wakes up at 11 pm. Last night it was midnight. I don't understand. I go in and rub his back and within 15 mins. he is back asleep. Last night it was a loud scream and it took a long time for him to settle down. Is it nightmares?!

Re: waking up at the same time every night

  • My son does this for about a week every 3-4 months.  I just go with it and it just stops.  I think it has something to do with growing and learning.  Since I just have to go into his room and sing a few songs and he is back asleep, I dont worry about it to much.  He does not get out of the bed or watch tv or anything.

  • My son has been doing this the last few nights as well, I assume bad dreams because when H goes in there he just holds him for a few minutes and lays him back down with his sleepy time turtle and that's it. He is starting to talk more lately though, more complete sentences, so it could be a developmental thing as well. As long as he goes back down no problem I'm not to worried about it.

  • My son did this for a few weeks around the time he turned 3. My sister said it was growing pains and that he would start sleeping through the night on his own soon. I didn't believe her because he, too, would wake up crying. But than one night he slept all night and has every night since. So hopefully he's just going through a little growth spurt and will be back to sleeping well soon!
