Reflux.. but not?

Our daughter has been doing this odd gagging thing since she was 7ish months old. She sticks her tongue out of her mouth and purses her lips around it then seems like she is gagging with her mouth closed. You can hear the fluid in her mouth and her swallowing it back down. She has no other symptoms of reflux, and even with this it never makes her upset. Times she will have it come out her nose and she doesn't even care.  We tried the zantac and it did absolutely nothing.. it actually got worse.  So now we are referred to  GI next month.    Does anyone else have a similar situation? Or know what to expect at a GI?

Re: Reflux.. but not?

  • my lo did the exact same thing as an infant, and we thought it was reflux. she was on prevacid for quite a few months before i realized it was dairy intolerance. i cut dairy out of my diet (ebf at the time) and it completely stopped. when we introduced solids she did ok with dairy and didnt do the gagging/spitting up anymore. recently as we have given more dairy we are seeing signs again. maybe try cutting out dairy for a couple weeks and see if it helps. when we first stopped the dairy it was about a week and i could see a 100% difference. good luck!
