Self Care Check-in

What did you do for yourself this past week?  Last week's challenge was to meditate, did you do it?  How did you feel?  If you didn't meditate, what else did you do for yourself?

This week's challenge: Considering what took place in CT on Friday, I suggest you arrange to do something extra special with your children this week - bake cookies, look at Christmas Lights, play their favorite game, etc..  While this challenge isn't particulary self centered, I think a lot can be gained from enjoying the company of our children.  And, remember, it's more about the time you are spending together, than the outcome.  So, who cares if the cookies are terrible, or your child falls asleep looking at lights.  It's all about the experience and the time together.

  • I prayed a lot this past week and I went to church by myself, it was wonderful.

    This week I will take the kids to see Christmas lights, play a game with them, and do crafts with them.

  • Someone at work gifted me a bottle of wine for the white elephant game at our holiday party Friday. I was not present to play because I had to pick up DS from daycare. My co-worker begged me to come back to cheer me up. I went and picked up what I got with DS in tow. I got the least liked gift I am sure.

    I will say it helped with my sore throat and coughing. I am not sure what I have but it is passing.

    DS and I baked 2 huge gingerbread man cookies. One went to his preschool teachers and the other went to our land lady and staff. DS had fun putting the candies to make the face and buttons.

  • I'm a day late, but still here!

    Last week I had trouble with the meditating. I just didn't make time for it. I'm going to keep thinking about this and try to add some kind of "quiet time" in my day. I did, however, manage 3 treadmill walks!

    This week I have Thursday morning free, and I'm going to keep it that way so that DS and I can play at home. We are constantly on the go, and it will be nice to spend some quality time with DS in his own playroom.

  • I'm also a day late Stick out tongue as I had to post and run on Monday. 

    Last week was hard as Lily underwent some testing.  I took an inventory of my emotions and stressors in a self-care book I am borrowing, and according to the book, I am "highly stressed," and that "burnout is a factor in my life." It seems that while I can enjoy any self-care I do, the effects are not lasting at this point...and I'm not quite sure what to do about it at this point.

    I did meditate some last week though. I have a hard time sitting in silence, I don't pray and I can't do yoga, but I did spend one night sitting by the lit christmas tree, listening to Christmas music. It was nice - probably the most peaceful I've been in a long time.

    My mother has invited the women of the family to make cookies on Saturday night, so I am looking forward to that... and I am planning a 'ride' on the polar express for Christmas Eve (i.e. We're going to dress up in jammies, read the book, watch the movie and then drive around and look at Christmas lights... I even have a bell to give Lily).  Lily may not really know what is going on, but I'm looking forward to it none-the-less.

  • I prayed quite a bit, thinking about those poor families and squeezing my kids extra tight.  Didn't get much yoga in which I really wanted to though.  But finals are over and I got straight 4.0's :) Now 4 weeks off of school, thank goodness!

    For spending time with the kids, my goal is to spend some alone time with O-bug, and some more quality alone time with Bubby.  Been taking Bubby to a lot of appointments (and I try to leave Bug w/ a sitter if I can).  So going to try to get some Bug/mommy time in and do something with bubby other than go get him poked and prodded!
