What? Out of diapers by 4 months Facebook post

I have an aquantance on facebook that just amazes me. She posted a picture today of her 2 month old.... 2 months sitting on a bumbo, on the changing table with a trashbag under the babys bare bottom. The quote says working on potty training. Only two diapers yesterday. Hoping she will be potty trained by 4 months. I know we all have different parenting styles but kiddo cant even hold her head up fully let alone understand. Im just amazed. This girl has had tons off statements over her pregnancy but this one made my mouth drop. Thoughts?

That is serious crazy town. My kid is a little over 2 and he is still I'm diapers, not displaying any signs that he is ready for potty training and I'm fine with that. Maybe that was just a joke picture? At least I'm hoping so.

I don't know the name of the practice, but if you do it correctly you don't need diapers past 4 months of age. They are there more for accident protection, and underwear around 15 months. I think you need to be a stay at home parent because there is no way it can work in DC.

It's called EC, elimination communication. Like a PP said, it's more about training yourself to predict when the LO will need to go.

I've heard of those who will look for the poop and pee signals from their newborns and try holding them over a toilet, then when they get to be around a year they can go with only training pants... that makes a ton more sense to me then pooping in a garbage bag and still smushing against their bum!  The worst part about what you said is that it was a bumbo ON a changing table.. eyeyeye.

I am all for EC and for starting as early as you want. I think there's definitely other valid schools of thought other than waiting for the signs of readiness...but a Bumbo? I don't really get that. I don't understand how that can be used as a potty.

That is ridiculous. I think EC (in infants) is a load of crock. DD still doesn't show when she is peeing and she is almost 2!

A 2 month old should not be in a bumbo regardless if she is trying to potty train or not. That seat is suppose to be pretty bad for posture and neck control at that age.

 Ditto this.  My almost 2 year old is no where near showing any signs he's ready for potty training - let alone my 2 month old!

 Geez! That is just ridiculous!

Agree with all of this. It seems negligent on the mother's part to do this-especially in the manner that it is being done. I would consider calling childrens services. Maybe dramatic but who knows what else is going on.

I cant even comprehend this. How could anyone think that letting your 2 month old sit in a plastic bag is a good idea? And where the fluck is her DH? Or anyone's common sense? Good lord.

In countries where diapers are a luxury it is their 'norm'.  They see it as neglet to let your child sit in their waste.  I get it I just don't have it in me to follow that practice, maybe if I SAHM FT.  But I definately wouldn't use a bumbo...

That sounds almost like a reason to call CPS to me.  Seriously, what the heck.  I can't even.

I don't know.  It seems totally crazy but I know some people start potty training really early.  I have done mission work in a few 3rd world countries where the babies are potty trained by 12 months.  I wasn't in my "baby making" time so I didn't take notes on HOW they did it.  But its not uncommon in some countries.

Isn't EC the "in" thing since that one celebrity did it or what not? It's NMS and not really "potty training" since it is the parents doing the work not the child but it's definitely not unheard of or neglect/abuse. She should make it easier on herself though and use the toilet instead of a trash bag.

I'm a SAHM and there's no way in h-e-double hockey sticks you'll catch me doing any of it! My 2 year olds tell me when they 'ock ock' but I have no idea when any of them pee lol
