Waking up screaming?

I was wondering if anyone else's LO wakes up inconsolably crying lately? DS will turn 6 months next week but last night when I tried to put him down at night he started crying. He never does this. I consoled him and rocked him until he was calmed. Then 2 hours later he wakes up crying and screaming again. I think it may be due to teething. Did your LO do this while teething? He seemed calm and happy during the day so it just started last night. I know it's not hunger because he just had a bottle and he's not a big eater to start off with. Any ideas? Or let me know I'm not the only one going through something like this?

Re: Waking up screaming?

  • It definitely sounds like SOME sort of pain. Could be teething, or something like ear infection or gas. Elliot had a rough teething week a few weeks ago...right at the 6 month mark come to think of it..and he would do this. Thankfully some baby Tylenol right before bed put a stop to it. Good luck!

  • DS did that when he first got a cold. His nose was super, super stuffy. I ended up having to hold him on my shoulder and rock him to sleep. I haven't done that in ages! He was okay after that, but every time he woke up he was crying and covered in boogers! It was the most pathetic thing I'd ever seen! Poor guy!

  • Hopefully it's just the process of teething. He just got over a cold a couple weeks ago and we took him to the pedi to get his ears checked. He actually did well when he got sick...didn't cry too much and still slept ok. He seems to be in more pain now and I have a feeling its because of teething but I'm not sure. I'll have to see how he does tonight.
  • DD is doing it too. And sometimes even staying awake for up to 3 hours in the night. I don't know what it is. I thought it was teeth... still no teeth. She's rolling in her sleep too which I think scares her and she wakes up... or that lovely 4 month sleep regression showed up late cause we are up almost every hour or so. I.... am.... so.... tired.....zzzz

  • I could almost quote you word for word. My LO started this a few nights ago. She acts perfectly fine during the day but during the night she will scream so loud and wake up.... I had given her pain reliever and she was better...She is chewing alot more on things so Im thinking she is getting her top teeth (got her 2 bottom teeth at 4mo), but I don't get why its just pain at night?! Maybe because she has nothing to chew on in her crib? ..or maybe it's something totally different...ugh I hate that they can't tell us why they hurt :(   Good luck to you! Hope our babies feel better soon.
