not napping anymore??

LO is almost 21 months old. The past maybe 2 weeks he has refused to nap. So he goes all day long unless he happeneds to fall asleep in the car, during the time that he would normally nap. I know some kids give up there naps early, but since he hasnt been napping, he has been falling asleep at like 5/6pm. He normally goes to bed between 8-8:30.

In the beginning of all of this he was sleeping right through the night until like 7 am (which is pretty normal) and a couple of days he slept until 8. Now tho he is waking up through the night, multiple times. He hasnt done this since he was like 6-7 months old. Last night he woke up 4 times in the middle of the night, and the he is wide awake at 4-5 am.

 

I would try just to put him to be later but he seriously will fall asleep anywhere, on the couch on the floor while he is playing, anywhere.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem??

Did you used to have him nap in his crib at a consistent time each day? DD's night time sleeps gets messed up when she's over tired. It's kind of a vicious cycle when it happens.

DD is only 18 months old, but she does skip her nap every once in awhile. I still put her down in her crib at her usual nap time (1 pm) every day and if she doesn't fall asleep, she just kind of hangs out in there having quiet time for an hour. When she does nap, it's for about 2 hours on the dot, so it seems to me that she still does need to nap, but just can't fall asleep some days for some reason.

I don't know how to fix your problem, but if it were me, I would just continue to try to get him to nap at the same time each day in his crib. If nothing else, he'll get used to the "quiet time". It is always amazing to me when I read that someone's LO falls asleep randomly while playing because mine will NEVER do that. I have to always do her wind down routine because she's always had trouble switching gears from playing to sleeping otherwise.

Thank you, and it would always amaze me too when people said there kids just fall asleep doing something. But apparently now he does! lol

He has been moved out of his crib to a toddler bed. Which has never been a problem, he has been out of his crib for months now. (hes a big climber). So he gets out of his bed, bangs on the door, plays with something, turns the lights on and off, takes all the stuff out of his draws, pulls his books down, etc. IF i leave him in his room for some quiet time. 

I am just going to keep putting him down at his normal time, and see if one day it will sink back in that he is supposed to be napping!

My son is still in his crib.  Sometimes he doesn't want to sleep during his nap time.  I just leave him in there for the 2 hours that he usually naps to wind down.  Usually he ends up falling asleep after singing to his toys for a while.  I agree, just continue your normal routine and try and make him nap lol
