If you have a crawler, what were the physical developmental steps he/she did leading up to crawling? For example, "lots of tummy time, then skootching, then XYZ, then crawling"
My son is a little over 6 months and sits on his own, and loves to stand on laps, but still really hates tummy time. He rolls, but not often and inconsistently. Right now his fave thing is just to sit and play, or stand on us. So I am curious what he will do next physically to learn to crawl. I have been continuing to try to promote tummy time with him (and DC too) but not much luck.
I know all babies are different when they start to crawl, if ever, so I am not worried or anything, just curious what transitions your LO made in order to make it to crawling.
Re: what was your LO's journey to crawling?
My LO will be 6 mo tomorrow. She has always loved tummy time, and as soon as she could roll from back to tummy we have had a hard time getting her to NOT lay on her tummy (like right after eating). She started army crawling (pulling herself forward with her arms) about 2 weeks ago. It was slow going but she could definitely get somewhere. Then she started getting up on her hands and knees and rocking or trying to go foward. Most times she actually ends up going backwards, which really frustrates her. The last few days she's been able to go foward a few times before her legs give out. She's not really "crawling" yet, but she's super close. Not sure how long this phase will last. A friend of our's have a LO who is about a month and half older and sounds exactly like your LO. Sits on his own awesome (which our DD still struggles with), but hates tummy time and rarely if ever rolls over. Some babies skip crawling all-together and it's not really considered a "milestone".
Everything progressed really fast once he started sleeping on his belly because he'd wake in the night and practice. It made me crazy! It was a month from when he first got on his toes to regular cross crawling. He never army crawled, he always had his bum and knees up.
He's always been a big tummy guy - even slept that way, so that might have helped.
First step was getting on all fours, then a week later, started rocking.
Then would take one "crawl", then fall down.
Then he'd kind of army crawl, but just a foot or two - pretty much pulling himself and accidentally moving his legs at the same time.
Then he figured it out and has been off ever since.
