I haven't really been on here much this weekend, the events in CT have really hit me hard, so I've been trying to stay away from the internet and news altogether.
I decided to log on to FB today, and a friend had posted this article from a blog (I don't know the person who wrote the blog article). It really put things into perspective, about what we should really be focusing on. Helping kids with mental illnesses instead of blaming guns and school safety.

This will probably be the only article I read about the shooting. I still feel like I'm going to throw up over the whole thing. My sincere thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who was affected by this horrible tragedy.
Re: Interesting Article
This article was a bit of salt on the wound but right on. This isn't about guns, let's not go there. My heart breaks for the mother as well. With this tragedy, everyone has lost. I continue to pray and keep these families in my thoughts.

I was actually just coming on here to share the same article. It's fascinating and important to get this mother's perspective, as Woodsie said. And there is no doubt that mental health is a huge issue that needs to be addressed. It is terrible that it took a tragedy like this to get some attention on that need, but I hope that the powers-that-be don't let this opportunity go without making some real changes.
That being said, I'm getting very frustrated by the fact that so many want to avoid the gun issue and seem to think that we can make this only about mental health instead. Both issues have played a role in the tragedy that took place. A FB friend posted this the other day: "In a terrible coincidence, earlier today a man in China stabbed 22 children and 1 adult at a school. Zero fatalities. Yes, people kill people, but they do it much more effectively with guns." It's still a horrible, traumatizing event that took place in China, but look at the vastly different outcome despite the similarities (number attacked, in a school, etc.).
