First birthday party

To get our minds off of the awful tragedy that occurred yesterday (it makes me literally sick to my stomach reading or hearing about it)...have you begun thinking about LO's first birthday? Will you be having a party, or just you (spouse, siblings) and your baby? If you're having a party, have you thought about a theme?

I wanted to keep it small for his first birthday, just us, each set of grandparents, and mine and DH's siblings, but DH thinks that we're going to have this big party where everyone in our families is invited. Personally, I'd rather save the bigger parties for when DS gets a little bit older but even then I'd feel kind of weird inviting family members that we don't see except for funerals and family parties once in a while. That just seems kind of gift-grabby to me, you know? Anyway, yeah, I think it will just be a very small gathering of the people that DS sees regularly and there probably won't be any "theme"...although all of the ideas of Pinterest are tempting!

I had a bigger 1 st birthday party for my oldest and I'm glad I did. She had such a blast. We rented a pavilion on a lake with a beach. I would really like to do that againmy oldest loved playing in the sandbut May is still really cold here. I guess we'll have to have hers inside. Even though we are way more poor with 2 than with 1, I'm still going to make a big deal out of it especially since she was born with congenital CMV and we have been very very lucky to have no symptoms so far!

I'm wanting to go big I had been pinteresting sock monkey themes, omg, adorable! Then- I saw these really Superman jeans at Gap, and am thinking about changing the party theme to that so he can wear them, lol! There is nothing on Pinterest for Superman parties, so I may be either totally on my own, or back to sock monkeys.

As for guests, def family and friends!

For my girl, it'll be a Minnie themed party.  And hopefully not too big, but def will be inviting friends and family.  

Can't wait, but at the same time I want her to stay itty bitty!

We will likely do a moderate sized party at our house and it will be the Very Hungry Caterpillar themed.  My mother decided on this like 3 months ago, and I'm an Eric Carle fan so I'm notopposed to it. I just started pinning many things onpinterest the other night lol!

We're going to do a moderately sized celebration and I want to do it as a Dr. Seuss theme.  That was what my baby shower was going to be that my sister and SIL were going to throw for me, but unfortunately I was never able to have it.  There were so many cute ideas that we all don't want it to get wasted, so we're going to do it for her 1st birthday.

I refuse to start thinking about DS birthday. It makes me too sad. He will be my last baby for a while and it breaks my heart. If I had my way I would be pregnant again already (I would also have bunches of kids as well).

However I do know that it will be small with our parents and siblings and that is about it. I don't want to do a big party like we did with DD.

I went to a birthday party this summer that literally had 40-50 people there. It was ridiculous and I totatally judged it. Neighbor's brothers cousins were there (if you get what I mean). It was super gift grabby.

We are inviting parentings, grandparentings, siblings and hallies most seen friend's and family (so 4 babies).

She was born on cinco de mayo so I may do mexican baby theme:)

I'm having a joint bday for DS with a friend that gave birth three days after I did.  Besides agreeing to do it, we haven't talked about it yet but I want to do a Cookie Monster themed bday.  Doing it together will cut down costs for us and since she is moving in July, this will be a good last hoorah for us and our mutual friends.

I'll most likely have a small one for just family also.

We are going ALL out for LO's first birthday!!! I am so excited!  LO was born the day after DH's birthday so we are going to combine the parties on Sat. May 18th.  We are going to have a catered pig roast at the Pavillion at our campground.  We're inviting around 40 friends and family (mostly family with a few of DH's closest friends).  Because it's going to be so expensive we are saving up for it now.  Also, hoping this becomes a tradition as a double birthday / kick off the summer party.  I'm not sure about theme yet, but I'm so excited to start the planning process.

I want to keep it small too.  I would like grandparents, aunt, and uncle at our house.  I did that with my DD but also invited my best friend because her baby was the same age as mine.  Starting at the 2nd birthday we will probably invite some other people/kids, that's what I did with my DD as well.

We are combining baptism and birthday, and travelling about a thousand miles for it. I'm sure it will be big, just because hardly anyone has seen her since she was born.

I literally just logged in to TB to make a similar post. I just started thinking about DD's upcoming Bday and will start really planning after the holidays. I know it's early but I'm so excited and it will be a big party. We have a ton of family and we always get together for everyone's bday and holidays. I am thinking maybe a bright colorful owl theme with invites that say "Look Whoo's turning 1!" I also found a cute cupcake theme idea with invites saying "our little cupcake is turning 1" and an adorable ladybug theme with invites saying "our little ladybug is turning 1"

We will be keeping it small.  We have a 1000 sq foot apartment and I am also not into huge 1st parties(just my preference). I will have a total of 20 adults including in laws, my mom and my closest friends ( we all have kids under 3). I will cook a few trays of food and do an ice cream cake. Some nice ideas from Pinterest and either a Hello Kitty or Cookie Monster theme.

 Jake has a Hungry Caterpillar nursery and we love adding to it! There are SO many things out there now! 

We'll definitely be having a fun party with 30 or so family and friends. I think I've decided on a vintage travel/map theme of "Oh the Places He'll Go". I figure this is probably the only year I'll get to really chose a "pretty" theme like these before we're having superhero parties and whatnot.

I love all these fun theme ideas! I will admit, before I had DD I totally judged huge 1st birthdays, but now I really want to have one. What a hypocrite, I know. I have lots of friends who have babies around DD's age and I know they are all doing parties, so I don't want her to be left out! We won't go over the top, just our friends with babies and family. We were Team Green so DD's nursery is pretty gender neutral so I think I want to do something super, super girly with pink and frills and lace and ribbons, since I didn't get to do any of that when we were expecting. I kind of want to do a party just for some of the amazing Pinterest ideas I've found!
