I am getting maybe 44.5 hours straight a night and that's only because DH is doing one feeding plus maybe another 1 to 1.5 hours with him in our bed and me getting not very good sleep. During the day he can only nap on me or wakes up after 40 mins in his crib spitting up. I can barely take care of myself and am trying to drink and eat enough to make milk. We sent our dog to daycare and I don't have time to shower. I maybe get another 40 mins during the day. Am I just a wuss? How much sleep are you all getting and when?
Re: How much sleep and breakdown?
You're definitely not a wuss. Mila has just started sleeping longer streches at night about 5 nights ago. She does 5-7 and then another 2-3, and I'm still tired in the morning. Before that it was usually 4-2-1, but sometimes only a 3hr stretch. I could never get her to nap more than 30 minutes at a time but we're slowly getting to longer naps. If she wakes up after 30m I bounce her around until she goes back down and really make sure she's burped well, a lot of times she'll wake up because she has to burp. I started napping at the same times she was, in the same room. Otherwise I was running back and forth up and down the stairs every 20 minutes trying to get her to stay down. She's currently on a 1.75hr nap which i think is a record for this time of day.
Also the gas drops just came in the mail yesterday - I don't know what I was waiting for. They seem to help her sleep longer. And I posted about this before but a massage before bed seems to help too. But who knows - it's probably all just random. Anyway - good luck and I hope your dog gets to come home soon.
DS (5 wk old) is just starting to sleep a little bit longer. He sleeps about 4 hrs (~10p-2a) then 2.5 to 3 hours. Since I EBF, that means I get 4hrs + 2hrs a night on average, when you add in the time for MOTN diaper change and burping.
And in the past 2 wks, I had trouble getting DS to nap during the day. I was basically spending 2 hours just to lure him to sleep, and he'd sleep for like one hour, and then I spend another 2 hours to get him back to sleep. Needless to say, I had no time to nap during the day and many times DH would come home to find me holding DS in tears. Like your LO, the only way I could get DS to nap was to hold him in my arms.
Luckily, DS is now napping better cuz I swaddle him for naps as well. When he's swaddled, I can lay him down in the PnP or swing and he won't startle himself and wake himself up! I still don't have time to nap myself but at least I can get things done around the house! So, if you aren't swaddling your LO for naps, give it a try!
I always shower first thing in the morning before DH heads off to work, b/c I worry that I won't have time to do that when I'm left home alone with DS.
Also, regarding your LO waking up after 40 mins spitting up - are you/YH burping him & keeping him upright after a feed? I try to keep DS upright and burp him for 10 mins before putting him down. GL!

I just feel like everyone is out and about enjoying their babies and I am a smelly, disgusting homebound mess.

it varies but usually a 5 - 6 hour stretch at night. Then another 3-4 hour stretch. It usually takes an hour at night to feed, change, and get him back to sleep.
you are not a wuss at all. I'm a hom ebound mess most days too. My babies both sleep at the same time at night - thank god. We get a 5-6 hour stretch followed by a 3-4 hour stretch most nights. DH and I do shifts, so I usually get to sleep about 5-7 hours a night, interrupted, but usually not too much.
My babies never sleep during the day at the same time more than 45 minutes to 1 hour. And when they do it's usually in the morning when I'm not tired and can't sleep. I maybe nap once a week if DH is home to allow for it.
Hang in there. I keep fantasizing how different life will be in a few short months, when we are all sleeping more.
