LO's middle name?

A friend and I were discussing middle names...she thinks middle names should be family names, but I don't think it matters. But, two of my kids do have family names as their middle names.

So what is your LO's middle name and how did you pick it? And on along the same line, what is your middle name? Is it to honor anyone?

DS1 Joseph. It's DH's MN too.

DD Claire. Not after anyone, I just love it.

DS2 Gregory. It's my dad's first name.

My MN is Leigh. My dad's MN is Lee, so it was after him.

Ds2 Victor, after DH's grandmother. Her middle name was Victoria.

DS1's MN is Ernest. DH was pretty insistent that this be passed down. It's DH's MN also and it's from his mother's side of the family. We were solidly undecided on MN's for these guys but when I had an emergency hysterectomy in my delivery we opted to give these boys our Dax's FN's. It's Oliver Clifton and Reid Andrew.

I don't think it matters either but I love meaningful MNs. Middle names like Grace, Marie, or Lynn are a great big yawnfest IMO.

DS1's is Jack. It's after DH's grandfather named John, who everyone called Jack.

DS2's is Weston. It's after my grandfather named Wesley. We just altered it a little since our last name ends in "ey" and it was too sing-songy to use Wesley.

My middle name is Leigh. Not after anyone, my parents just liked it. Although my first name is Rachel and my parents' names are Ray and Cheryl so it's sort of like they just put their names together :P

DD's MN is Ruthanne. Mine is Ruth. Ruth is a family name and has been in every generation since forever. For me, having some form of Ruth in my first daughter's name was absolutely needed. However, that's just me. I think family names are great to carry on. I don't care one way or the other what other people do. LOL It's nice, but not absolutely necessary, kwim?

We, mostly me and DH doesn't argue, like choosing a family member's name as the middle name but it doesn't bother me if others don't. My middle name, Nicole, was chosen at random but my mom later learned that my dad has a cousin with Nicole as a first name.

E's middle name is Nicole which is my middle name. Z's middle name is Madelon which was my paternal grandmother's middle name.

Ds1 is named after dh. Ds2 is middle name is after my grandfather. My middle name is after my great aunt.

So cool that your middle name is Leigh, with that spelling...I've never known anyone else with it spelled this way! It cracks me up when people don't know how to pronounce it!

Elise. E for Kris' grandma Edith and my grandma's middle name was Louise so the Lise is for her. Her first name is also meaningful. K for Kris and Lee for my Grandpa= Kaley.

DD1 Christine- my sister's middle name

DD2 Jane-was my grandmother's middle name 

I don't think they have to be family names, but I do think they should have some sort of importance.

William. It goes back 4 generations as a family name. It definitely wasn't super important to us from the beginning to use a family name but we feel really good about it.

My girl's middle name is after my mother-in-law, Misty, who passed away from cancer in late 2011. Normally I wouldn't use family names because personally, I like original and unique names, but I really loved my MIL and wanted to honor her. She was an amazing woman and a very talented artist. My daughter's name is Brilynn Misty (pronounced like BRYlynn...not BREElynn like some people say). The two names just flowed together so that helped too. And to me, Misty is a pretty unique name...you don't hear it a lot.

My middle name is Lynn and it has no special meaning to it. My mom just liked it, I guess. lol

DS1's is Joseph, which is my grandfathers's name, my dad's name, and my brother's name. The main reason we used it was to honor my dad, who died eight years ago

DS2's is Christopher, which is DH's name

If we have a daughter, we will use Victoria, which is MIL's name...she died two years ago

Her mn is Bell for "Acony Bell" a Gillian Welch song and a flower. My mn is Maria, a feminized version of my dad's name which is Mario

Aydens MN is Thurlow after his dad. It was originally his grandpas name. It's such a unique family name we wanted to keep it going.
My MN is Lynn. Nothing special about it. I think it was the go to middle name if the early 80s. I had lots if friends with the same MN.

DS1 is Edward, he is 4th generation with the mn of Edward on DH's side.

DS2 is Joseph after my grandpa.

SD is Erin after her uncle, DH's brother, Aaron who passed away at age 16. He is also the reason behind the spelling of Daron's name.

DD middle name is Alice, which is a family name. It was my moms name who passed away about 4 years ago. It was the easiest way for me to honor her. I debated it as my LOs first name, but it ended up being too hard emotionally, so middle name it was.

If we had a boy he would also have had a family middle name after my husbands grandfather.

I didn't have a middle name until I took my maiden name as my middle name...Mehl.

Even though I did use a family name for my LO, I don't believe it has to be a family name.

DD's middle name is Joy, which is my SIL's middle name.  It wasn't really after her... we just liked how it sounded.  I do like the idea of family names though, so I guess we will say it was after her haha.

My middle name is Anne after my grandmother's first name.  We might use it as a middle name for our next if it's a girl, depending on what we use for the first name.

Ds1-  Michael, which is my dads name and also FILs middle name

Ds2-  Anthony, my dads middle name and also my cousins name

Ds3-  Robert, FILs name and DHs middle name

 

My middle name is the same as my moms, grandmas, and it was my great grandmas first name. Eunice (pronouned you-niss). It is awful! I would not have used it if I had a girl!

DS middle name is Ryan, after my dad named Brian.

DH middle name is Robert after his paternal grandpa.

My middle name is Shannon, not after anyone, but my family is Irish so it was a nod to my heritage.

Ethan's middle name is Bradley because my husband and I love Sublime. We listened to it as kids/teens and shared a love for the band.

L's middle name is Mackenna and that's my grandmas maiden name. She calls her Mac a doodle, it's adorable.

DD1. Kathryn after my mom

DS1. Louise, like Latin/Mexican after DH grandfather. DH also has that MN

DS2. Jim, after my grandfather egos name was Jim, not James.

DD2. Marie after DH mom. I don't like it at all, I wanted Rae because MIL goes by the name Rachel. But, I lost.

My middle name is Annette. My dad picked it out. 

 

Paul's middle name is Edward. It's after my dad's dad, who passed away last year right before we started TTC. I was very close to him and it crushed me to lose him. My DH was great at allowing us to put his name into LO's name.

I like doing family names as MNs but I don't think it's something that has to be done.

LO's middle name is Flora. There was a Florence and the machine song on the radio when she was born. DH has no memory of it since he went off the be with her and cut the cord and take pics. He thought I was a little cracra when I first says I wanted it to be her middle name. But every time I hear a song by her I think back to that moment of lo coming into this world.

My middle name, Marie. Nothing special.

LOs middle name is Allyn, which is his dads middle name. 

Mine is LeSaicherre which is my mom's maiden name. 

But.i don't think they have to be family names and probably none of my other kids will have a family connection.

My middle name is DeJuna.  Its my grandmother's first name.  She passed aay when my mom was 17 and all her sisters made a promise to eachother (theres 6 of them) that the first girl would be named after her, out of 21 cousins, im the only girl! My DD middle name is Lee after my mom, its also my great grandmother's 1st name.  

I love the idea of family names.  I think it tells a story. My brother also has a family name, he's named after my dad and one of our great unlce's.

Ike's middle name is my last name because his dad and I aren't married, so I thought if he had my last name it'd be less sticky in terms of legal forms and what not...People would believe more easily that we're related. Also, I just think my last name kicks donkey booty.

My middle name is Marie like everyone else in my generation. Bleh.

DD's is Noelle, not after anyone I think her father liked it.

DS's is Michael, my b/f's first name because he did not want to use a Jr.

Mine is Elizabeth, it's my mom's name but I think it is actually after my great grandmother that I was named.
