bill collectors calling me looking for someone else

Has anyone had this happen to them?  It's pretty annoying.  I get calls about 2-3 times a day from this machine that is asking for Jeremy Marshall.  I have had this phone number for 8 years, so I'm pretty sure this guy gave my phone number to someone instead of his own to avoid trouble.  They keep calling asking for him, but the machine says "if you are Jeremy Marshall press 1."  Other times, it says if you are Jeremy Marshall press one, if not, hang up."  So how do I get them to stop callingme?  I don't want to press 1 when I'm not him and then have the police knocking on my door looking for him or somehting.  I don't want to get caught up in whatever mess this guy is in, but I hate the constant calling.  Any ideas?

Did they leave any info of who they are? You could try calling them and telling them that your number isn't his and to take it off their list.

This happened to us once.  I eventually pressed one and was connected to a live person who I was able to tell they had the wrong number and to stop calling.

Yep...press 1 to get a human and tell the person you are not who they are looking for and they need to remove your number from their list ASAP.

You may have to do this a few times, depending on how bad the collection company is.

agree with PP, I had this happen before too and it did take a few calls back but eventually they stopped

I agree with the PP - - if that doesn't resolve anything, report them to donotcall.gov which should get them a $10,000 fine each time they call...  That should put an end to their calls QUICK!

Try pressing 0.  Often with automated systems that will get you to a live person, if it doesn't hit it again and again until you do.  After a few times the system will tell you it doesn't know what you want and is connecting you to an operator.

This has happened to me also as pp mentioned just press one and talk to them they stopped calling me after I did that it was so freaking annoying!!!

We just moved and got a new house # the same was happening to me. After about a week I pressed one and told them they had the wrong number... have not received another call since. GL.
