Trouble TTC

Rheumatologist has a cancellation and can see me today!

I don't have to wait until Jan 28th to be seen.  Run-down:  I've had on-and-off immune symptom problems since about 9.  Costochondritis, joint pain probably related to my hypothyroidism, right ear gets inflamed and hot and swollen all of a sudden, random skin rashes, flare-ups, sometimes my tail bone even hurts, and now a possible plaque psoriasis.  I also go through the lows too - being sick all the time and antibiotics not even working.  I feel like I've been in the over-active immune status for about 2 years now.  Last time I was actually sick was a week before Hubby and I got engaged in Oct 2010.  I truly feel this is why none of our TI sessions worked before chemo and now none of the 4 IUIs.  When I asked my fertility doctor, he said its not a deal breaker if I have an auto-immune disorder since its common in women and they still proceed with fertility treatments.  He also hoped I would get pregnant cause it would actually improve any autoimmune disorder I may have.

But my reasoning is that since early pregnancy involves your immune system working so carefully to allow the embryo to implant, how could an immune issue not prevent pregnancy???  I'm so grateful there was a cancellation to get in this month prior to our next cycle of trying.   I'm back in that hopeful phase again which I know is good for trying.  Hope you ladies have a lucky, hopeful, happy Friday!  Thanks for listening to my update!

  • That is great news! I also have auto immune issues that we are currently "keeping a watch on," but I'm always wondering how that is playing a role in our IF. Or how it will affect pregnancy if I ever do get to that point. I know symptoms can go in remission during pregnancy, but I'm concerned about the possible affects after pregnancy. But I can't worry about that part right now with everything else that's going on. I hope your doctor has some answers for you! GL!

  • cara1024 - I may need to pick your brain if they do find anything.

The appt went well and he sent me home with a slip for bw to check for autoimmune issues that affect fertility.  He also agreed with my fertility doc that having autoimmune issues is not an obstacle to moving foreard with fertility teatment but he couldn't or wouldn't answer my questions on whether it reduced my chances or had other implications.  He said we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.   So nowI'm just trying to figure when to get the bw done cause some of my sympyoms have mysteriously improved the past week aftrr taking clomid.....
