We found out today we're having a girl, so I started looking into girl's names. I found a list on nameberry and one of the names DH and I liked was Esme. I was googling it and immediately "Esme Cullen" came up. Never having read or seen Twilight, I didn't know it was a character from the series, but now I'm wondering if everyone will assume we named her after the character if we use it?

Esme is a beautiful name and honestly, she's not a HUGE character and as the last movie just came out I'm sure that it's gonna be fading a little from people's memories. Go for it!
Never heard of esme before. Also never watched twilight. If you like the name then use it!
I'm in the minority. I've seen the movies, but haven't read the books and Esme immediately makes me think of Twilight. I would assume you loved the series if I met a little girl named Esme. I've never heard of the name anywhere else.
Renesmee... I about died when they said that was the baby's name. Awful, just awful!

Sorry to say, but I would assume that you got the name from Twilight. I'd never heard of Esme as a name until I read the books.

My kid's named Rosalie in the height of Twilight fever. Nobody asks me if she's named after the character though. That's kind of the beauty of those names though. They were all older fashioned names and old fashioned names are on the rise. Would you assume someone liked Twilight if they named their son Edward, Jacob, Jasper, or Emmet? Probably not. Since they are fairly common names. The girls names are more "old lady", which is in.
I say go for it! 10 years from now Twilight will be just a joke from the past. Like an 80's one hit wonder.
this!
My great aunt's name was Esme...she would have been in her 90's; however, a little girl in my child's play group is Esme. She just turned 2.
I have never read or seen Twilight, so those are my reference points.
I meant to add Esme is such a beautiful name you should use it :
You and me both!
If you love the name, use it!
This^^
My cousin's name is Esmeralda, and nobody ever calls her anything other than Esm?e. She goes by that NN in school, work, with friends, online, etc.
The only thing that pissed her off was Twilight at its highest peak. She's okay with it now, so unless Twilight somehow because a litterature classic in the next dozen years, your daughter shall be fine It's a beautiful name and nickname.
This made me laugh out loud!
I'm a writer, and I named a character Esmeralda with the NN Esme. I wouldn't immediately associate it with the Twilight series. I say go for it. It's a gorgeous name.
I like the name Esme. I would go ahead and use it. I've read the books and to be honest, if you hadn't mentioned Twilight, I probably wouldn't have made the connection. She's not really a main character.
On another note, I have loved the name Isabella with the NN Bella for years, but since it's number 1, refuse to name my daughter that. So, I'm with you, Thanks a lot Twilight.
