visitor with a mthfr ?

Hello ladies,

 I am not pregnant, but I am seeking advice on compound heterozygous mthfr.  I had a m/c in November and requested testing because my mom has a blood clotting disorder (polycythemia vera).  Well it turns out the I have mthfr.  I spoke with my OB and she recommends 4mg of folic acid/day to treat the condition.  I was wondering what other moms have done that has been successful.  I have heard mixed things about baby aspirin.  I am hoping to educate myself about it and then go back to my doctor.  Any info or advice would be appreciated.

I'm hetero MTHFR (c677t) which is the least likely to cause issues; however, given my history, and having a proactive OB and RE, I was put on metanx (which contains L-MTHF, the natural form of folic acid, b6 and b12 and is more easily absorbed into your system than regular folic acid) and lovenox. 

Also, I would check out the thorne prenatal vitamins (which is what I take) or neevo-dha which are geared toward women with MTHFR. 

ETA: I was on baby aspirin during my last miscarriage, but ended up miscarrying anyway. I know it has worked for a lot of women though!

In addition to the standard extra folic acid, I am on a daily baby aspirin and I was on Lovenox (injectable blood thinner) from egg transfer to 12 weeks. Every dr is different, and I do not recommend self prescribing baby aspirin (it can cause ulcers and other stomach issues if not properly used or monitored). I hope you find something that works for you!

I was diagnosed with a double copy of the C677T gene. Currently I take Neevo dha, a baby aspirin, and 40mg of Lovenox once per day. It's still early but this pregnancy is different. My HCG levels have been 2.5 times as high, I've had no spotting first time, and actually have had some morning sickness for the first time.

I have mthfr (hetero c) and I am on NeevoDHA and baby aspirin. Kmfx for all of us!

I am compound hetero as well.  It was found after my second m/c.  My OB started me on a baby asprin and Folbic (extra folic acid) as soon as they found out.  Once I was pregnant again, I dropped the baby asprin and was started on Lovenox.  When I started seeing the MFM at 12wks she said that she would not have put me on the Lovenox bc there is no real proof that it helps, but since I was already on them she wasn't going to stop me.  She understood my previous loses and knew that I felt like I really needed them.  As the pp said, different doctors do different things.  Some see MTHFR as a big issue, others don't.  Best of luck!
