Parenting after a Loss

Teething rash?

My poor little guy has a rash all around his mouth.. it's been on and off for about a week.. I'm assuming this is from teething?  Doesn't bother him.. comes and goes throughout the day.. I've tried putting lotion on it, but that irritated it more.. just put a little vaseline on it before his nap.. we'll see if that helped any once he wakes up..

Poor guy :(

Re: Teething rash?

  • Have you started any solids yet?  Just making sure it isn't an allergy of some sort.

DD had chapped/rashy looking cheeks around the time she was pre-teething/cut 2 teeth.

  • If baby uses a pacifier, it could be from that.

  • He does use a pacifier more now that he's teething.. but, sometimes he'll wake up with it and hasn't had a pacifier all night.. it's not from solids, as we've not yet introduced anything since he has such a sensitive tummy.. I was googling "teething rash" images, and found several pictures identical to what he has, so I'm assuming it's probably related to that.. or, as PP said, more drool.. he's a drooly machine these days.. I keep a clean bib on him, but perhaps it's a combo?

Definitely.  I actually think they are one in the same.  The teething rash is because of all of the extra drool, and it has more acidity to it.  He might also get a diaper rash in tandem.  GL!

  • My DD started teething at 4 mos and got slight fever and diarrhea with the 1st batch of teeth around 6 mos; when 2nd batch came in around 1 year she had a rash around her mouth (using the paci more) and her 1st major diaper rash --- like you are describing; with molars she just didn't sleep.  Both rashes cleared up within days of the teeth cutting through and haven't come back.  GL!
