Chris's tantrums are getting more and more frequent and in the quarterly progress notes we got from his school - they figure prominently and are interfering with his learning. Specifically they mention tantrums when he has to transition to speech and/or physical therapy. My guess would be that he's probably doing something he enjoys like music or dancing time and then gets pulled out for therapy. I haven't asked for details yet. They do describe him as very much led by impulsivity.
My question relates to the tantrums and the screaming. I'm not sure who on his team I would ask for help regarding this. He's got his teacher, the assistants and ST, PT and OT. Since the tantrums and the screaming seem more like a behavior thing than a sensory thing (like the brushing of the teeth), I wasn't sure who I would turn to for help. There's a school psychologist but I've never spoken to her.
I want to help my little guy. It hurts my heart to see him so upset sometimes. I get that children, even NT ones, go through a tantrum phase but I think that these are maybe more than your typical tantrums (or at least a bit more intense).
Thanks!
