Last minute doubt about name ...

I think I love it.  But do I? Am I going to regret it? Is it too short? More like a nickname? Was Caleb better? But Caleb (another early consideration) looks funny to me now. I think that I am just used to calling the baby Cole (although we haven't shared the name yet.) Last time, I had the pressure from SO to use the name Mason (even though I had picked it out as a name even before I met him.) This time, I feel like it is my choice that he is just going with. That makes it MUCH harder. It's pretty much all on me. I hate last minute doubts. By the way, I only put the last name here because it is different than mine, and it is common enough that you can't all come and stalk me.

Re: Last minute doubt about name ...

  • Boy names are the hardest names to pick, in my opinion.

I think you should absolutely love the name you're going to give your son, and not have any doubts about it. I never waited to meet either of my boys when I named them, but others do wait.

Sorry my reply isn't much help to you.

You're getting close to full term! Hope everything goes super fast and easy for you.

  • I had last minute doubts with Nick, but I'm glad I kept it. And it's hard with the 2 boy because it's kind of like you already used the good name first if that makes sense.

It's a tough decision choosing the name of a person . Boys are tough, you want something that wont sound like a baby name when they are 40. Some names are cute for babies but not for men. So names are good men names but not baby names.

Cole and Caleb are both pretty solid boy names.

  • I honestly love Cole; it is so classic and sounds really good with Mason.  But, if you are not 100% sure I would say think on it a little more.

What does SO think?  Have you shared your doubts with him?

  • Honestly, Cole is not bad but I do kinda like Caleb better as a FN. I think only because I know a couple people with the LN Cole, so it doesn't really ring as a FN to me.

Me too I like Caleb a b it better, I think because I like names that are multi- syllable for a first name.

  • I think Cole is a great name!! I personally like it better than Caleb. I just know way too many kids named Caleb, and I've never been that big of a fan of it. To me, Cole sounds more masculine.

You could always keep both names in mind and decide when he's born. We did that.

  • I think Cole is a good name!  It is getting very popular.  My DS' name is Caleb, so obviously I am a fan of it.  :)  I do love it, but there are a BAZILLION Calebs everywhere we go.  I already know 2 others that will be in his grade at his school...and I don't know THAT many people.  :/

Funny, I have never met a Cole before. Ever. I think that it is #90-something on the list of popular baby names. Maybe it's a local thing.

Caleb, on the other hand, is climbing the name list quickly. One of the main reasons I am hesistant to use it. Mason is already so popular (although we picked it a gazillion years ago.)

  • Thanks for the advice/support. I think that I am just having last minute doubts, but I am pretty sure that Cole will be his name. It is what we have called him for months. SO is completely useless in the discussion. He loved the name Mason so much that he really doesn't have anything else to offer. He will tell me if he really dislikes a name, but he won't say much more beyond that. Ahhh ... men. We haven't told friends or family yet, so nothing is definite, but I think that I really do love the name. It's just such a huge decision!

I think its because I know a lot of people with Coltins/Colten/Colton...and they call them Cole as a NN!   It very well could be a regional thing!

Regardless, if you love a name...go for it.  Mason is popular too...and I love it as well.  :)  I have a popular name from the 80s and I always liked my name.

  • I think Cole is great, and Mason and Cole sound great together, FWIW. Also, I don't know any kids named Cole, so that is a plus!
