Have to vent

SO today is DHs birthday, his mom, brother, aunt and cousin dropped by to bring him cake, which was all perfectly fine, nobody had been sick recently and they followed my hand washing rules, however as soon as his aunt got here she made a beeline for DD. DD was sitting content in her bouncer seat watching DH and had no interest in being held, so she screamed bloody murder when his aunt picked her up. Instead of soothing her, his aunt says "I'm gonna bust your a** if you don't quit".. Are you freaking kidding me?!?! His mom walked in just before I opened my mouth and took DD and wouldn't give her up to his aunt, she didn't hear what had been said, that's just normal behavior for her with lo when it comes to her sisters (I don't mind that since I think grandma's trump grandma's sisters when it comes to cuddling). I decided not to make a scene and talk to DH about it later since its his bday and his family, he doesn't seem to see what is so wrong with her comment, he said "It's just her and she wasn't really going to do it". Maybe I'm overreacting, but I don't think it is in anyway acceptable to tell a 5mo old you're going to spank them just because you didn't get the reaction you wanted out of them. I could care less if DD understood or not, you just don't threaten my child like that. I can't help wondering if she thinks she's just going to spank my child when DD does something she doesn't like later down the road. I believe that kind of disciple is for the parents only, at an older age and it has to be something pretty serious for a spanking. I already have issues with this aunt because of her constantly telling me what is or isn't best for DD, and she doesn't do it in the typical trying to be helpful way, she flat out demands and puts down my parenting because its not what she would do. For example she tried to go off on me about holding DD too much the first month she was home, DD was on an apnea monitor, having several severe reflux episodes daily and holding her helped keep her calm and kept her from choking, all of which his aunt knew. I have just so had it with this woman, I don't even know what happened because I used to like her and get along with her great until shortly after DD came home from the hospital. Sorry I just needed to vent a little since DH doesn't seem to get where I'm coming from.

What she said was really inappropriate!  I'd be ticked too!  It amazes me how people think they can just say anything.

I'm late to respond to this, but yes, that would annoy the hell out of me.  You had a right to be p*ssed.  I agree with Boston about talking to your DH to get on the same page about this stuff.  In-laws! AHHH!!!!
