We had our first phone call with the agency last night! When I told her what little boy we specifically were inquiring about, she said ?Oh, he is an amazing little boy.? : ) This child is from Russia and is 2 ? years old. He?s considered ?special needs? because he is deaf, but she said his medical report stated he would be a good candidate for an implant! It makes me so happy to know that this child could someday hear his own laugh or hear someone tell him that they love him. The agency won?t match a family with this child until they are almost fully funded (about ?) because the process will only take 5-6 months and they don?t want a relationship formed and then us not be able to travel for the court date due to lack of funds. I couldn?t agree more. I wouldn?t want to break his heart and give him false hope of coming home with us. As of now, we have ZERO funds for this, but we have to start somewhere. So, if he?s available still once we have all our funds & if we feel led to have him become a part of our family, then that?s what will happen. If not, I?ll be thrilled he got a family sooner!
Prayers are greatly appreciated as we open our adoption savings account this week & tell our parents/family about what we?ve been called to do. Fundraising should begin very soon!
What has been your biggest success when fundraising?
Re: First contact w/ the agency
Congratulations on the first step! I am sure that it will all fall into place as time goes by.
I have no advice on fundraising, sorry.
Mother of two wonderful boys! Blessed through adoption.
Congrats! What a great beginning! I can't wait to hear about your progress!
Sorry I don't have any advice on fundraising. But good luck!
Thanks for your kind words! Good luck to you guys as well! Where are you adopting from in Russia?
The child we are interested in is in Region 14 (I have no idea where that actually is in Russia.) We found him through Reece's Rainbow.
Here are some fundraising ideas we've came up with:
Those are all great ideas! Last night I saw a fundraising idea where a woman had a Wheel of Fortune viewing party, so maybe if there is a popular or favorite show that your friends like you could host a party with snacks, maybe games for themed prizes on commercial breaks, etc. You could request a donation for admission. The Oscars or Golden Globes could also work well, and people could guess the winners.
Those are great ideas! Thank you! It'd be fun to have a game night.
