XP: Recommend a potty for DD

XP from T12-24: I don't intend on potty training anytime too soon, but thought I'd get DD a potty for Christmas to put in the bathroom so I can keep a better eye on when she might start showing interest.  In my dream world, I'd love to have her potty trained before LO2 gets here in April (she'll be 21 months then).  But I'm not in any real rush - just looking for suggestions on a potty you have liked/had success with for your little girls.  TIA!

Re: XP: Recommend a potty for DD

  • If I had just one kiddo, I'm a huge fan of just getting a potty seat integrated in a regular toilet seat.  We got this one at Home Depot and it's been fabulous--no potties to clean, nothing to store, doesn't take up floor space, etc.  We have a comfort height (aka higher) toilet so we've paired it with an Ikea step stool.

I've also had a number of smaller potties.  My favorite are the Ikea ones.  They are one piece, so they are easy to clean, and also really inexpensive.  Nothing fancy at all, just very practical.

How old was your LO was when you used that seat?  We have comfort height seats too, I forsee messy accidents with her not being able to pull her pants down & climb up on a tall toilet quick enough.  I otherwise love the idea of no extra toilets to clean!

  • We use the one from Ikea. It's super easy to clean and doesn't take up very much space. DD2 started using it around 17 months and it's very easy for her to get on and off of it by herself.

  • I just ordered the Bjorn potty. Heard great things about it.

I didn't really start doing any PTing until about 2.5, so they were older.  However, we generally started off using the potty at standard times (after dinner/before bath, first thing in the morning, etc) so the "urgency" issues wasn't a factor.
