Scared of the Genetic Testing!

Dr took bloodwork today. Said it will be used in 2 weeks for NT scan. He also did Materni21 test. I'm terrified. Just last week one of my friends who is my age had to have a DE due to her baby's chromosomal problemsit had 69 chromosomes. I'm nervous enough. I'm kinda freaking out. I'm 36.
Anyone have thoughts/experiences? TIA

At 36, your odds are excellent of having a healthy baby. In fact there is over 99% chance that your baby will be just fine.  It's hard to beat those odds.  I know it must be tough when you know someone personally who fell into that 1%, but it's very rare.  I was 36 when I gave birth to my DD, and I am 38 now (will be almost 39 when #2 is born).  Both my kids are normal and healthy.  I had the same fears you did though, especially with DD.  I know it's a bit nerve-wracking to wait for those genetic testing results, but the odds are that when you get them, they will be reassuring and help you to enjoy the remainder of your pregnancy.  Keep us posted!

All of this. And I will be 42 when my baby comes, so you are much younger than some of us here. And my testing all turned out fine.

I'm 40 and I am scared to death but I need to know asap to put those fears to rest. FX we all come out  w/ great results.

I would find the 1 in 2214 very reassuring. I'm 36, and the results of my nuchal translucency (after both phases) came back at 1 in 280. They said that was within the normal range for someone of my age, but it wasn't what I was hoping for, so we went ahead and did the amnio. Baby has no chromosomal abnormalities, thank goodness. But think about it this way: 1 in 2214 means you have a better than 99.95 percent chance that all is well.

I'm just getting started on all that. I'll be 41. Just had a baby at 39 and all was well with him, so I'm hoping for the same. The testing, waiting, and what ifs are streeful. But it really sounds like your numbers are great!

You sound like your odds are good, and I know the wait is awful - we had to wait more than 2 weeks for our CVS results, and we were the very rare case where there was bad news, and we had to terminate (I'm 37).

But I had not had any testing prior to that with that pregnancy, and any numbers I would have had at that point would have likely suggested the problem. While it was horribly sad, I'm glad we found out when we did, since none of the alternatives were happier, and many were much worse.

I'm PG again and hoping for a better outcome this time, of course, and I know the odds are in our favor - good luck!
