Baby Gate Help -- Narrow Doorway

So DS is everywhere these days and the cheap wood gates we have are no good. 

 I just bought 3 at Babies 'R' Us over the weekend, nice and sturdy metal ones.  The only problem is 1, maybe 2 of them don't fit my hallway.  We have a very old house and the opening is only 25.5".  The gates I have at the smalles are 29".  I put one up in the kitchen to keep him from getting in there and I really like it.

Super disappointed right now.  Anyone have any recommendations for narrow hallway/doorways?

I was just checking out baby gates on amazon last night. You can buy extenders for gates to fit a wider space.

Perhaps a retractable gate is a better option, although I wouldn't use it for the top of the stairs.

We have one and it doesn't work. He pulled it on top of himself, so I was looking for something a little sturdier.

It's munchkin brand form babies r us. It's white was 59.99. It self closes, so it's nice when you only have 1 free hand, plus I doubt he'd ever figure out how to use it.

I've never seen a retractable one...this would probably work perfectly!
