Diaper Changes

In the past few weeks, P goes bonkers during diaper changes.  He starts arching his back before I even lay him on the table!  When I am able to occupy him with something, he calms down, but not always.  This happens morning, noon, and night!  We were at a diner yesterday and he pooped, so I brought him in the bathroom to change him and he managed to chase all of the women out of the bathroom by screaming and then rolling around in his poop!  Any suggestions?  Should I start to perfect the art of diaper changes while he is standing?

  • DD has really started fighting diaper changes as well.  It wears me out.

  • A does this as well.  The only thing that worked for us was giving her a cracker...well this got out of hand quickly.  I knew I need to stop that when I told her it was time to change her diaper and she ran to the pantry and yelled CRACKA!! CRACKA!  Now I reserve the cracka's for when we are out, it helps tremendously.

Hahahahaha!  This is awesome!!  Yes, same thing happens here.  I've tried to do the whole standing up thing, but it ended up with C peeing all over the place.  Hey-I should have grabbed the potty and done potty training!  Damn, missed my chance! Big Smile

  • Same here. Laney has always given us problems with diapers but it has gotten out of control. After the bath is the worst. She carries on like someone is stabbing her. it is brutal.
  • Levi has been in huggies slip ons for a few months now because he hates laying down to be changed.

Hes at the point now where he puts his one foot in so that its over quicker.

  • yeah, it's a total nightmare. I still try to distract by giving him my phone or by  playing an Elmo's World video on youtube. That almost always works.

  • Oh yes. I usually give him my water bottle, that helps. Standing is even worse for us. I keep hoping he will be ready to potty train soon.

  • Sometimes G really fights it and sometimes he doesn't. When he fights it, I just wrangle him as best I can, sing songs, give him a toy. I don't have any stellar advice. I think standing up sounds way more challenging IMO. But sometimes lately G will poop, point to his belly, and then run to his changing mat and lay down calmly for the whole change. One step closer to potty training? Maybe??

  • This won't help for the wiping bit but have you guys tried pullup diapers? L has been in them since 7 months. We've never had a leak and just one poop blowout when she had the runs.
